Rite of Release

The Rite of Release is a Gallerian communal ritual that honors the death god Dewoatir on the salughter and consumption of various animals, and people (though cannibalism is highly frowned upon).   It is common belief that the murdered, be it man or animal, will keep hold of a grudge, and it is the duties of priests to ensure that they can be placated and enter the cycle of reincarnation. The head is said to contain the soul, and after one's killing, may emenate out of the soul, becoming a Lich. To prevent this, priests first clean the individual with salt, and then decapitate the corpse, seperating their soul from body. The body (if it is an animal) is then eaten with the attendees offering gratitude.

Execution

A priest would then libate their own blood to establish a connection to the dead, and gives a prayer so that they may safely pass to the otherworld. Oftentimes priests would place two rings on the mouth of the deceased, one to cross safely to the otherworld, and another so they may be reborn again. Finishing the process, they are then cremated to free the spirit within.   For truly heinous individuals, their heads are to be buried underneath a seed, and denied cremation, so it may seal the soul of the deceased into a tree. It is believed that they will suffer as a tree until they are purified, pleasing the gods.

Components and tools

Usually a priest dips a blade into salt and fire, making the blade sacred in the eyes of the gods, and uses it to seperate a head from its body.   They usually prick their own skin to let out blood, and libate it onto the head of an individual.   Lastly, they utilize their own currency of rings to placate an individual, as the more intriqute the design, the more expensive metals used, the better their circumstances may be in their next life.

Participants

They are attended by a group of Gallerian Priests, and whilst laypeople may observe the ceremony, they cannot get close or interfere with the ritual, lest the spirit were to cling on to them.
