Filarion Plaza (Fill-are-e-on-Pla-za)

The Vir Legacy

C.R. Eede
Filarion Plaza:
  • Name: The Filarion Plaza
  • Symbolism: Patience, Adaptability, and Negotiation.
  • Recognition: 2300 VO
  • Contribution: The plaza offers a place of purchase and trade, entertainment, justice and fair trial, and religion.
  • Location: C'avarnia, West
This is where the traders and establishments of Aethel Caeloria reside. The buildings are as exquisite as the kingdom, making them a feast for the eyes. During the day, Filarion Plaza is the most active because that is where the market is, and travellers come from afar to see what the High elves offer and how they can negotiate in trade. It is also where the most multi-culturalism can be found. The Ivory Orchid, Freedom’s Pass and Haven of Solaris also reside here.

Purpose / Function

Filarion Plaza was constructed for traders to sell their wares to natives and travellers without the hassle of traversing far and wide to do so. Over time, it became a bustling area where the Haven of Solaris, the Ivory Orchid, and Freedom's Pass came to be constructed, making it one of the critical parts of the capital where a lot of action takes place.  The Filarion Plaza was where a considerable portion of the kingdom's income came from. Only native elves can set up a stall within Filarion Plaza, as a residence is necessary for an application.

Alterations

Over time, Filarion Plaza has had significant establishments added to it, such as a place of religion, the only respectable tavern within the entire kingdom, and a court hall of justice and fair trial. Due to many travellers congregating in the market, they also have free reign during special events to roam the rest of the capital. The Ivory Orchid and Haven of Solaris are often visited frequently.   Though it was constructed in 2396 NE, the reigning king of that time; Jujinal Aalarelai, ensured that the area had a Governor to oversee and manage the running and success of the marketplace. The Governor role always fell to an elf instead of an elfa due to the times. However, as the years passed, elfa's could also apply for the position, creating a workplace of equality. Depending on the size of the traders, sometimes two Governors would be needed to manage everything. Management included accepting and verifying new applications from traders, sorting yearly targets for each trader, recognising achievements, and removing traders from the area.

Architecture

Filarion Plaza is primarily a smooth stone courtyard with velvet and linen tents for the traders. The market has enlargened over the years filling the empty spaces with adventurous stalls for newer business owners. See the features below:
  • Stone Courtyard: The stone courtyard covers an acre of land filled with market stalls.
  • Market Velvet Tents: There are white, light yellow, green, red, blue, black, and lavender velvet curtained stalls, which are for the more experienced traders who have earned over a specified high amount to be recognised as official business owners.
  • Market Linen Tents: Linen curtained stalls are all beige for the newer business owners hoping to lift their ideas off the ground. While these elves are not yet officially recognised, they still have a target to reach yearly.
The market owners of each stall have a specified amount to reach at the end of each year, making it a highly competitive environment. If businesses do not reach this target or even get halfway, they must remove their business from the marketplace and find other employment means.

Defenses

Filarion Plaza has Varcanai guards patrolling the area day and night to ensure everyone abides by the kingdom's laws. There are thieves here and there, which the Varcanai Guard are quick to chase and capture. Standing to attention are usually 4-6 guards around all parts of the plaza.

History

2396 NE:
  • The Plaza of Trade: A stone courtyard was constructed for high elves to trade with travellers and natives.
  • The First Governor of the Plaza: King Jujinal created the governor position for any elf wishing to manage and run the plaza. Only elf's were allowed, no elfas.
775 NE:
  • The Plaza Governor Management: King Dilax Aalarelai changed the governor role so elf's and elfas could apply for the position, creating workplace equality between the genders.
234 NE:
  • Suspicious Traders: Traders within the plaza became wary of the Rayai Tree and Ca'rthavial Vales warning, packing up their stalls and leaving to be with their families.
  • The Governor's Clash: The governors, Malon Vir and his sister Edea Vir clashed opinions on whether to close the marketplace after the warnings. Edea told business owners who wanted to be with their families to go, taking the natural signs seriously; however, Malon and many other traders remained.
13 NE:
  • Black Curtains: The Plaza's trading stalls turned from light colours to black with screaming souls echoing in the walls, driving the business owners to insanity.
11 NE:
  • Fist against Fist: The traders of the marketplace were corrupted and possessed by the Ashen, who wanted to see the elves fight between themselves over matters that were considered trivial or unimportant as a way to appease their commander, Vivaleth. These fights turned violent and even fatal.
2 VO:
  • Blue Coins: The insanity of Governor Malon Vir became too much as he soon turned to a corrupt and greedy heart, seeking more coins than the kingdom had to offer. With Vivaleth twisting his mind, he fought with fellow business owners and killed them, dousing their hard-earned money in blood and licking them clean, leading to blood poisoning and death.
23 VO:
  • Trading Massacre: All the traders within the marketplace killed one another, yearning for everyone else's profits, turning competition into fits of frothing jealousy.
28 VO:
  • The New Governor: Upon King Dihavanor Aalarelai's return to Aethel Caeloria, he heard in passing the wisdom of Edea Vir getting as many traders to safety before the imminent threat arrived. To reward her swift actions, he appointed her house the official elves to manage the marketplace with her taking charge.
2300 VO:
  • Aethel Caeloria Changes: The Plaza of Aethel Caeloria had its name officially changed to Filarion Plaza.

Tourism

Tourism is rife within Filarion Plaza, especially when the capital holds special events or ceremonies. These events are where a vast portion of the kingdom's profits come from, with travellers willing to spend more than they have available. The Traverse is a valuable time for tourism in the capital, for it celebrates indifferences and puts aside any former hostilities.
Filarion Plaza: Filarion Plaza was constructed for traders to sell their wares to natives and travellers without the hassle of traversing far and wide to do so. With over an acre of land filled with market stalls, visitors can choose many business owners to purchase from, satisfying them once they leave the kingdom.
The Governor: In charge of Filarion Plaza is a governor or two who oversees and manages the area, ensuring it runs to the high standards the reigning king had set. The governors are always from House Vir and can be siblings or lone elflings pursuing their kin's life work.

House Vir: After the fall of Malon Vir in 2 VO, his sister Edea Vir, became the new governor in 28 VO. Her selflessness and duty of care for the traders who acknowledged the Ca'rthavial Vales and Rayai Trees' warning made her a role model for future generations.
