Arc 2, Episode 3 - "The Orb of Imprisoned Sight"
General Summary
Aucienne used glasses to identify green eye orb -- a sort of banishment spell, but the energy has changed. Originally meant for torment, but Daymon's Remove Curse shifted the energy and now it seems to be more benevolent and meant to protect.
~~~~~~~ *Orb of Imprisoned Sight Item Deets:* A green eyeball encased in a high quality Tetrian glass orb. The eye looks frightfully and displays images of trapped people inside its pupil.
After a curse and attunement has been removed from the orb; the orb grants the following effects.
While touching the orb, the wielder is blinded. In addition to being blinded, the wielder gets 60ft Soulsight.
Soulsight: For the duration, you sense the presence of living beings within range. You see a faint aura around any visible creature or object in the area that contains a soul. As an action, you can investigate the soul and its previous whereabouts. A trail appears behind the soul, showing the path the souls has recently traversed, like a set of footprints, or a smoke trail. ~~~~~~~
Daymon tries to convince the eye to release the contained companions -- thank you for protecting them, but they are our companions and we would greatly appreciate speaking with them and traveling with them. (Rolled a 13...and that was with a +11 persuasion :sob:)
Saw an image of a vulture-like bird head that snapped out from the orb -- the eye was still frightened.
Isadora revealed she was the 6th most deadly person in her land -- Tetros was in a war.
Isadora hasn't been home in a long time -- been all over looking for her companions, who were sent out to find the gargoyles (which we had a run in with).
While further discussing the item, Daymon clarified that he'd already cast remove curse and changed the energy, but that didn't extract the people. As he indicated "this item" Fane popped out of the orb pokeball style.
Fane experienced being drawn into the orb, and he was "home", which for him was a nice room at a good tavern on the road of his travels.
Daymon tried shaking the orb to see if he could shake the other two companions out, but no luck.
Fane shared that he was trapped inside and fighting off hordes of enemies, protecting people. "Keeping up the good fight."
Isadora: "I believe everything you're saying."
Daymon: "We have no reason not to."
Aucienne believed, based on the gargoyles' manual, that GB might be drawing the attention of the gargoyles somehow.
We discussed looking for a homing or tracking device or glyph on GB and/or on the gargoyles.
Aucienne spent some time investigating Mama Wadíne's book.
Daymon went to he nicer part of town, performed some music to forget his trouble, but eventually spotted Craven in the corner and talked with him about the Raven Queen, faith, and why he might've parted ways. Craven and he debated philosophy, but Craven was tight-lipped about his parting of the Raven Queen. He said she officially relieved him on his duties, but that it was a mutual parting after a lot of discussion.
Their conversation turned to his party's recent activites: if Shazok has one of the ten sceptors, that would block any divination, which seems to align with the rules inscribed on the tablets.
lodinus -- diviner; last seen 90 years ago; saw craven scrying and told him to piss off. he was hunting the shadowfell and didn't want to be spotted
While Aucienne reads through the book and cross-referenced with the grimoire, she found the following:
Great shaman woman with green eyes causing destruction on hethred forces -- the farness forces. The shaman lady doesn't get much mention about the origin of her green eyes and power. She was part of the Veltish rebellion (which resulted in the barony being split into three)
reference of a special hunter/assassin on the hethred side -- this assassin was known for being able to seek out his prey through different realms. Shadowstepping into one plane and out again after his target is taken out. Could negate defensive lines and surprise his target. Only 2 references -- one on the hethred side by a low ranking officer, and then on the Fellish side (since they were on the receiving end). "Dark elvish man with white dread-locky hair and bright green eyes." These references pre-date the shaman lady. (pretty clearly the shaman lady is the one that wrecked us in Warden's flashback and the assassin/hunter is Lodinus)
"The Emerald Wings" is mentioned before this assassin, and the shaman lady is referenced after the assassin.
The lwa would interfere with things to protect -- during a forest fire, some people disappeared and were presumed dead, but suddenly popped back up completely unharmed. The puvwa and the lwa can whisk people/animals away to safety, which is similar to how the emerald eye acts.
some of these writings are conversations between two parties. cross referencing between the passage of the divine hunter and mama wadine's grimouire, some enemies ambushed him to gain or steal something from him. they wanted to blind him so he wouldn't be as much of a threat. they wanted to "gain a long awaited divine accuracy for targets." could be used to target souls as part of spells. the ambush involved using the third demonic contract, and "your faithful companion" was lost in the ambush.
Daymon (Justin, Nerdish) — 06/24/2023 4:39 PM PART TWO (POST BREAK)
After his conversation with Craven, looking to put some of this heavy stuff out of his mind, Daymon played more songs in the tavern, got drunk, and slept at the tavern.
The next morning, Daymon reunited with the party, with Isadora arriving soaking wet from having slept outside. Everyone discussed their next plans. Daymon wondered if they could circumvent the divination restriction from the sceptors by casting a spell in common since that translation didn't call out prohibiting "to seek out." Aucienne said it might be possible, but was beyond her capability. They agreed the best hope they had to getting answers was to try to find Lodinus the diviner/hunter, who was last seen in Anchek 90 years ago.
After doing a quick supply run in town where Aucienne and Daymon bought potions, the party set out. They soon came across a blockade in the road. Five dwarves dressed in normal clothing had stopped a wagon on the road loaded with crates and barrels. Some were closed, but the open ones showed mining supplies -- pickaxes, shovels, etc. The dwarves said they believed the wagon travelers had stolen ore and gems from their mines and were planning to sell it in town. The travelers denied this, but their matching rapiers and cloaks implied they were part of an organization and not just simple travelers. The youngest of the four wagoners looked nervous, said this should be an easy job.
Daymon, detecting some possible leverage, cast Cause Fear on the youngest, donning a gaunt, haunting visage and demanding that he answer to whether they stole the items on the cart. He said they didn't, that they were just hired to deliver the supplies to the town. He said they were coming from (I think he said Anchek -- please correct me if I'm wrong Blaze) and heading to (Sal Senin?), then sputtered that he wasn't supposed to say that. One of the other wagoners slapped him to shut him up.
Daymon demanded that the youngest clarify where the supplies came from if they knew and what the plan was with them, but suddenly his concentration dropped and he disappeared into the green-eyed orb he was wearing with a single uttered "Oop!" Everett swiftly popped out in Daymon's place, disoriented and confused, but unharmed.
