Arc 2, Episode 11 - "The Perfect Distance"

General Summary

When last we left off, the Queen’s Gambit had just descended into a lower level of the mines underneath Highkeep Heathersage. Entering a room full of dwarven stone coffins, they were attacked by several Shadowborn assassins, grey ghouls, and strange lizard-dogs known as Girwolves. After defeating their assailants in battle, the party spoke with three people who had recently emerged from coffins, expressing disbelief that decades had passed since they went into stasis during the original Shatterjaw Plague in Hethred. Eventually, they made their way to the surface after Galebark successfully cured a gnomish woman who was severely infected with the grey mist.
Descending deeper into the tunnels, the party found a fire-bellied robot similar in construction and design to the illustrations in the book found in the Stairway of the Gods. Inside his chest was a metallic sphere that glowed with a gentle blue tint and covered in gnomish runes and some odd markings scrawled within the chest. Isadora recognized these markings as Tetrian writing -- some kind of cosmic maps or star charts indicating cycles of the moon and stars. While she couldn’t perfectly decipher them, she was certain that the writing was intended to reference a specific moment in time, and was unique to each construct.
Curious about his own internal workings, GB is guided by this new bot, named GriffBones, into opening his own chest using the phrase “reveal your heart” in gnomish Tetrian. Inside, Galebark discovered that his wiring was, in fact, very similar to that observed within GriffBones. Before the Queen’s Gambit departed the chamber, they agreed to help the lost robot find the city of Galor and an individual named Kronoir Greygut, the same individual referenced in the field repair manual from the Stairway of the Gods.
Entering the final chamber, the Queen’s Gambit saw a terrifying scene. At the far end of this room was a circle of six figures around a summoning ritual, a shield-like dome around them. These figures were dressed in dark purple feathered robes and chanted incessantly in abyssal, attempting to summon Ar’Ginog the plague forger. Several of these figures were recognized - Felissa, one of the dark sisters who was temporarily slain by Craven in Sal Senin, Hunnel Jimei, the priestess who was subtly influencing Zigismund Mox’s every action, and Nambra Danelis, the headmistress of the chantry in the Highkeep. At the head of this circle was the unmistakable form of Shazok, the shademother herself, all oily-feathered and evoking the essence of a humanoid vulture.
