Grittooth leads a splinter group of gnolls in
The Spire of Beasts, in direct opposition to
Lizardtamer. She believes that Lizardtamer has been bullying and deceiving the rest of her pack that following her is the only way to survive.
In Grittooth's eyes, if the pack's survival is solely dependent on this one unstable resource, then that can only spell disaster for them once that resource is exhausted or removed. Furthermore, the way Lizardtamer forces the others to live — hiding, crowded in an urban slum — is not how gnolls are meant to live. While they might have escaped whatever
Bright Futures, Inc. might have planned for them, being trapped and confined within a small territory is not much different to a gnoll.
Ultimately, Grittooth believes that Lizardtamer is hedging. Stalling, until circumstances force her to make a decision. Grittooth would act. Either the pack will domesticate, or the pack will once again roam wild. No more rummaging through trash like stray dogs.
The gnoll's spirit is one of a predator. To us, fear is respect — and fear is deserved.
Lizardtamer rules her clan through fear. She makes them scared like prey, but she is prey to the furless porkshops of the city. They are prey to prey, waiting to be scooped up and destroyed whenever the predators are hungry enough.
This is no war, my predators. It is a culling of the timid of the herd. She stalls for a choice to be made for her. Well, we will make that choice.
We are gnolls, and we prey on the weak! We are gnolls, and we survive!
