Session 42: Hitting the Books
General Summary
- The Lads had finally arrived at the Voltracity Docks after 16 days of sailing from Krong.
- The Lads entered the first tavern they found while Hettle searched for shops potentially selling magic items. Hettle is offered a magic backpack but turns down the 13,000GP price.
- Meanwhile, Willow purchases a bottle of Specialty Voltran Wine and asks the bartender and tavern owner Harold about the city.
- Harold says that not much out of the ordinary happens in Voltracity, although public executions and festivals dedicated to their God-King are common - with one happening next week.
- Cosmo walks up to Harold and asks how Voltra got his power: the God-King was said to have lived a cursed existence but was chosen by the God of Lightning after finding their artifact.
- Cosmo then asks where to find books and is told of two locations: the Dominion Publica - a grand public library - and the Library of Voltra for only the Chosen's eyes.
- The Lads make their way through the city towards the Dominion Publica but are stopped along the way by a young man excited at seeing his first adventuring party.
- Muda gives the young man an autograph from 'The Lads' before parting ways and continuing to the Dominion Publica.
- Inside the great, three-story library is a vast collection of books, priests reading to groups of children, and lots of lightning imagery down to the shape of the central bookkeeping desk.
- The Lads are directed to different sections; Cosmo looks for books referencing stars, Lambert reads picture books, and Muda and Willow look through a Voltracity citizens directory.
- Muda finds a recognizable surname, 'Smythe,' along with their address, but Willow cannot find anyone with the name he searched for.
- Cosmo finds a book from a scholar who surmises that the stars in the sky are entire realms created by Gods and ponders whether it takes a God to make a realm or vice versa.
- After regrouping and sharing their findings, Glen and Cosmo search for the relative of Muda's wife to ask where Muda's grandson is under the guise of bringing him an inheritance.
- The man who answers the door is disgusted by the mention of Muda but delighted by the news of his death.
- He tells them that Shotah can be found with his parents at their home in Thornewood, Evemora.
