Character Creation

Introduction

Please review the below for character creation rules. Note all of these rules may make sense right away, but as the mystery unfolds, you will learn why things are this way.

Background

As all characters come from a highly educated and cosmopolitan caste, any academic, aristocratic, or urban background would be acceptable. All characters are scions of rich land and business owners. Be sure you reference your family in your background. If you were forced to flee home, who would you miss? Who would you be happy to flee? Are you leaving a lover or spouse behind? Are you escaping am arranged marriage you hate?

Classes

The Sorcerer class is not initially available as a playable class. Paladins will never be playable. Warlocks and Clerics may only have Chaotic aligned patrons and deities.   In modern times, the ability of Sorcerers to spontaneous caste magic due to their lineage is considered a trait of evil. In the depths of history, the demonic, evil gods lived among mortals. They produced offspring who possessed a shard of that evil power. When a sorcerer is found, they are quickly captured by the Argentimeri and never seen again.   Clerics of the Twelve are the only ones permitted in society. Worship of a god other than the Twelve is considered high heresy and is punishable with reeducation. Clerics of the Twelve are carefully chosen and spend most of their time in Cloisters; they do not go on adventures. Those renegade clerics willing to give their faith to a secretly worshiped deity find that only gods with a Chaotic alignment grant powers.   Warlocks may not have noticed anything suspicious at first. They would be aware that pacts with supernatural entities are forbidden, but as most Lessor Noble houses would do anything for more power, the practice happens, secretly. Since they are lone figures, they may never notice that the only entities that will form a pact are decidedly Chaotic in alignment.   Due to rumors regarding the disappearance of powerful Wizards, apprentice wizards are initially taught to be shrewd by their masters. Most wizards make an effort to seem less powerful than they are when in public.

Races

Humans are not a playable race. No one has ever heard of or seen a human. However, Church authorities are on the look out for those possessing distinct human features, as these are seen as a sign of evil divine heritage and sorcery. Half races are playable, but only as distinct races, their human heritage unknown. All characters must be humanoid, what are sometimes called demihuman (gnome, elf, half-elf, halfling, dwarf, half-orc). Any other races will be approved on a case by case.
