Use Magic Device Skill

General Skills Rules:Taking 10: If you are not threatened or distracted you can take 10 on a roll. • Taking 20: when you have plenty of time, 2 minutes or more and faced with no threats or distractions, you can take 20. This does not count as a ‘natural 20’ and indicate automatic success. Generally this takes 20 times longer than normal. You can’t take 20 on any check that has consequences for failure. • “1” Rolls: When you roll a natural 1 on a skill check, roll D20 again. SUBTRACT this number from your check. • “20” Rolls: When you roll a natural 20 on a skill check, roll D20 again. Add this number plus the 20 to your check.   Use Magical/Psionic Device (CHA)(Trained Only) Note: this combines use magical devise and use psionic device into one skill. Retries: yes Requires: the same type of action to activate the magic item.
  • Activate Magic/Psionic Device: use this skill to use a magical or psionic item you normally could not activate. You can also emulate class, spell or racial or alignment to use a device.
  • Emulate to activate Item: you must know what you are trying to emulate. If its an ongoing effect you must make it every hour. If you are emulated an ability score, use your use magic device check result – 15 as the new ability score for the desire ability.
  • Activate Blindly: use item without knowing activation words, command words, or how it works. Get +2 to check if you used the item at least once before. If you fail by 9 or less nothing happens. If you fail by 10 or more there is a mishap, the mystical energy is released but not in the way you wanted, this often results in you taking 2d6 damage but other affects are possible at DM discretion.
  • Use Scroll: you must meet the DC to use the scroll (20 + caster level of scroll) and may need to meet the minimum required ability score for the scroll as well.
  • Use Wand or other Spell Trigger Items: allows you to use these items as if the spell was on your class list. A roll of 1 indicates you can’t use the item for 24 hours.
  • Note: you can’t take 10 with this skill or aid another.
  • Synergy: +2 use magic device checks related to scrolls if you have 5 or more ranks in spellcraft, +2 use magic device checks related to scrolls if you have 5 or more ranks in decipher script, +2 on spellcraft checks to determine spells on a scroll if you have 5 or more ranks of use magic device.
  Action and DC:
  • Activate device blindly DC:25 
  • Use a Scroll DC:20 + CL 
  • Use a wand DC:20
  • Emulate class feature DC:20 
  • DC:25 Emulate Race Emulate Alignment : allows you to use these items as if the spell was on your class list. A roll of 1 indicates you can’t use the item for 24 hours.
