Razor Grass
Elven: Thar Laeg Pel
Dwarven: Stuko Omer
Giant: Sarkhlyn Mashin-Ovs
Dragon: Ksura Ghasa
This tall grass is found in dry savannahs and plains. It is a green yellow color, turning more yellow in the dry season. It has a little bit of shine to it and if you look long enough at it, you may see flashes of gray. The grass makes a subtle, but unique, sound as its blades rub against each other in the wind.
This dangerous vegetation is native to the Western Continent where is coexists with other wild grasses. There are accounts of it being found in small patches in the Southern Continent near the Burning Sands or the wastes of Harad. In the West, there are apparently areas of the grass that stretch for miles in every direction.
The grass is infused with metals and has a high degree of earth elemental essence. It draws up metallic matter from the ground it makes use of to help in its survival. The metal is used to edge the outside of each blade of grass, making them razor sharp. They retain the most of the usual flexibility of tall grass. Experienced travelers in the regions can identify the grass from other species, in part, that it bends less in the wind. The metallic edge makes the grass very, very sharp. Hence its name. Creatures unprepared who stride through it will find themselves shredded and bleeding in only a few yards.
The infusion of metals in the grass also makes it a bit less flammable. Razor grass will burn, just not very well or for very long.
The grasses adaptations serve a number of functions. For one, it is less likely to be trampled down and eaten by large herbivores. The grass spreads its seeds via the wind. Each seed has a tiny bit of magnetized metal that is naturally drawn to other areas of metal, which is something the grass requires to thrive. Therefore, its reproduction does not require its seeds be consumed and deposited elsewhere. The grass also has a bit of a vampiric nature. It has evolved to be particular adept at drawing needed nutrients from the decaying bodies of those who bleed to death in its vicinity. It also benefits from the blood spilled in its midst even if the victim does not actually succumb.
Those creatures in the regions deal with the razor grass in their own ways. Most simple avoid it. The experienced traveler will notice its unique sound and appearance before striding into it. Other creatures with thick skins or armor plating are unafraid of the Razor Grass. Humanoids in the area have learned to harness the grass. They weave in together to make weapons, armor, tools, and traps.
