Identify Magic Items Meta-skill

General Skills Rules:Taking 10: If you are not threatened or distracted you can take 10 on a roll. • Taking 20: when you have plenty of time, 2 minutes or more and faced with no threats or distractions, you can take 20. This does not count as a ‘natural 20’ and indicate automatic success. Generally this takes 20 times longer than normal. You can’t take 20 on any check that has consequences for failure. • “1” Rolls: When you roll a natural 1 on a skill check, roll D20 again. SUBTRACT this number from your check. • “20” Rolls: When you roll a natural 20 on a skill check, roll D20 again. Add this number plus the 20 to your check.   Identify Magic Items: (Meta-skill: Appraise, knowledge, spellcraft) ((Appraise + Appropriate Knowledge (Religion, Arcane, Mysticism) + Spellcraft)/3) Retries: None until skills have increased. Requires: Usually one hour of study. Synergy: if you possess the corresponding Craft feat for the item you are trying to identify, you gain a +2 on the check to identify.   Action and DC:
  • Quick Identify- 10 minutes of study DC:+10 
  • Lucky Guess- 1 minute of study DC:+20
  • Identify Spell Completion Item- matches class DC:15 
  • Identify spell completion Item- no class match DC:25
  • Identify Wondrous Item- minor DC:15 
  • Identify wondrous item- medium DC:20
  • Identify Wondrous Item- Major DC:25 
  • Identify armors or armor- standard DC:15
  • Identify armors or armor- specific DC:20 
  • Identify Armors or Armor- Unique DC:25
  • Identify Ring DC:18 
  • Identify Rod DC:18
  • Identify Artifact DC:30
If you are able to successful make the check, you learn about the item’s powers and means to activate. You do not learn about any possible cursed features.
