The Art of Enchanting and the scarcity of magic items

The art of enchanting has only relatively recently been rediscovered in Aeros, and relies entirely on aether crystals and shards to function, making it an expensive, though worthwhile endeavor. Enchanters have learned to draw out the aether within a crystal or shard and permanently bond it to an item. As yet, these effects are limited to strengthening weapons or armor and some minor effects have been able to be placed upon other items, one of the most frequently sought after for instance is a pair of stones that allows the bearer of one stone brief communication with the bearer of its paired stone from any distance. Magical items are found throughout the world, in nations vaults, or deep within cave networks that have never seen the light of day, or in ruins on unexplored islands. These items are prized by their owners, and rightfully so, as they are worth no small amount of coin.
