Magic Items and Enchanting
The DMG and XGtE rules regarding magic selling price and creation costs are bullshit. DMG says a legendary item can have the effect of a 9th level spell. XGtE says a legendary item takes 50 workweeks and 100,000gp to make and that consumables such as spell scrolls and potions cost half the time and money to make. But XGtE also says that making a 9th level spellscroll costs 48 workweeks and 250,000gp. This means making a single use 9th level spell scroll would cost 2.5x as much as making an item that repeatedly grants the effect of a 9th level spell.
So the magic item prices are just off. The DMG probably came up with these guidelines to make a simple reference guide. Assuming it was meant as a guideline, we're going to change it.
Lets take the +1 weapon as a basis. It is magical, so this circumvents the resistances of certain foes. The most expensive base weapons are greatswords, longbows, and heavy crossbows, all valued at 50gp. The cheapest are clubs and slings, 1sp. Even for the weakest weapons, a +1 enchantment is enough of a boost to put the value around 100gp. The more expensive weapons would be valued at around 500gp. We'll see how we work from there. Another feature we might want to have is temporary enchantments. Think +1 weapon for a day for 50gp, something like that.
