Gunpowder and Firearms

Gunpowder first appeared in the Kingdom of Bolmar in a collaborative effort by Dwarves and Gnomes. Its production was a well kept secret for hundreds of years, with no written records except for royal laboratories and libraries. Gunpowder was primarily made for use in mining operations. Later cannons were invented which the Dwarves used to deter the Orcs.
Firearms were first created by Gnomish inventors at the Givaron University of Novelty (GUN), which is why they are also referred to as "GUNs". King Bolmar allowed its production but insisted that it was sold exclusively to Dwarves and Gnomes. These laws are still in effect in the Dwarven Kingdoms, but almost nowhere else. As a result, Dwarven and Gnomish traders often sell to other races at increased prices. Gunpowder, which is required for the ammo of firearms, is still a rare resource and quite expensive. A gunpowder horn costs 70gp and a refill costs 50gp, meaning a single shot from a firearm costs around 5sp.
Firearms are powerful ranged weapons. The technological level of firearms can be compared with flintlock firearms in the real world.
There are various types of cannons, mainly used by the Dwarves of the Kingdom of Bolmar in their struggle against the Orcs from the north.
Most firearms are brutal, they are inaccurate and have short range but can deal massive damage.
Anyone who knows what firearms and gunpowder are will know that they can purchase or order it from most Gnomish and Dwarven traders. Additionally, those proficient with firearms can usually make their own gunpowder and cast their own bullets.
Producing gunpowder requires 10gp worth of sulfur and 25gp worth of saltpeter plus some quality charcoal which anyone who can make gunpowder can also make from normal wood. The entire process takes about an hour and yields 50gp worth of gunpowder.
