Players Handbook (page 39)
Time in the campaign is very important. Your referee will keep strict account of the time consumed by various characters, for it is likely to separate them, since not all participants are likely to play at the same actual time. Time costs characters money in support, upkeep, and wage payments. It takes time to adventure, to heal wounds, to memorize spells, to learn languages, to build strongholds, to create magic items - a very long time in the last given case.
House Rule
Time is important. And will have to be logged and considered. Seasons come and go, and aventuring to certain regions may be undesirable at certain times of the year.
Rest and recuperation is also a factor to be considered.
Campaign
This will be explained to individuals at the start of their campaign journey.
Useful Notes
In Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (AD&D 1st Edition), time is broken down into several units:
- Segment: The smallest unit of time in combat, equal to 6 seconds.
- Round: A combat round lasts 1 minute (10 segments).
- Turn: A turn is a longer unit of time, equal to 10 minutes (10 rounds).
Breakdown:
- 1 Segment = 6 seconds
- 1 Round = 10 Segments = 1 Minute
- 1 Turn = 10 Rounds = 10 Minutes
These time divisions are particularly important for combat actions, spell durations, and movement rates in AD&D. Let me know if you need more details!
