Elf

Like all races, elves have spread far and wide, and have grown up in all sorts of locations, from coastal towns to forest glades. However, like dwarves, they retain the core knowledge of plants and the affinity with above ground nature. Elves are generally lean, graceful, silky smooth and ooze confidence.

Players Handbook (page 16)

There are many sorts of elves, and descriptions of the differing types are found in ADVANCED DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, MONSTER MANUAL. Elven player characters are always considered to be high elves, the most common sort of elf.

House Rule

Elven player characters are usually considered to be high elves, the most common sort of elf, but a wood elf is equally plausible as a player character. Unfortunately, sea elf and dark elf (drow) are reserved for NPCs.   Elves like all other races do not have infravision or seeing in the dark!

Languages

Elves are intelligent forms, who are known to study, and as such, through learning will know the basics of 2 more languages (spoken and written) in addition to elven tongue and common. If intelligence is 16 or more, they get 1 additional language on top of the extra 2.

Age

Elves typically live up to 350-400 years. Some have been known to live to 450-500 but this is very rare. They are normally considered a young adult by the time they have reached their mid 30's.   The reason for this ruling is that there isn't 1000's of years of history in Aerisian, and in reality I don't want to have to write the sort of historical background that Tolkein created over decades of writing. Player characters have grown up enjoying peace amongst the Dwarves, Elves and Humans, and therefore cannot have history that stretches too far back, nor can they have too much life experience. Therefore most player characters regardless of race will be between their 20's-50's.
