Personal history

Nothing is known of Moraphan's origins. But its known the Crimson Lord Moraphan began growing his power in the Ashland wastes of Alea in the early years of the Age of Blood. Mustering his dark armies to turn upon Aeris. But the free folk of Aeris were unaware. As the power of the Elves diminished after warring with the Dwarves and Humans, Moraphan continued building his power in Alea. First invading the island of Kari in 6131, where the dark armies swept through the island quickly. The dynasties of Kari were so easily defeated due to their lack of unity, and Moraphan knew this. From there he targeted Sarasarada. He invaded the Khanate, fully revealing his power to the world. Armies of Hobgoblins and other monstrous races set upon the continent. Burning through Tarisia, and crushing the city states of mankind. Only the Sultanate stood longest against Moraphan, having buffer zones and a bit more time to prepare for war. But by the year 6100 the Sultanate had shrunk into their capital, barely holding out. The Kingdom of Bengala retreated from the mainland to an island in the middle of the bay. At this point Val’Kara and Kaldrland braced for invasion. It came in the year 6099 when Moraphan landed in Kaldrland and Val’Kara simultaneously. Kaldrland gave a spirited defense before fully retreating from their land entirely in 6094. They sailed to Novoton, where they were greeted by the Novoto with open arms. The Val’Kari also defended as long as they could against the hordes of twisted folk, but soon enough they too were pushed out of their lands to Tol Ador in 6087.   The Long Night began, and the seemingly unending sieges continued until 6060 BGC when Sylra Vereth formed the Golden Alliance and rallied the free peoples together. Moraphan did not simply lose ground. He saw that he was now fighting a war on too many fronts. Because of this he pulled his forces back under the guise of weakness. He baited the Golden Alliance into a final battle with a seemingly crippled dark army. When the full force of the Alliance marched upon Moraphan’s fortress, Moraphan summoned a group of powerful chromatic dragons to descend upon the Allied forces, now caught in a trap he unleashed the rest of his armies. The battle began to sway in favor of Moraphan. And all seemed lost for Sylra, till over the horizon marched an army of Triton and Minotaurs, joined by a host of metallic dragons. These new allies punched into the enemy’s flank. As groups of winged Dragonborn alongside metallic dragons accosted their chromatic dragons foes, and the Minotaurs blew their great battle horns the battle raged. Days passed, weeks, two months of siege and attack, defense and contention. Finally Moraphan himself sallied forth from his fortress. Cutting through swaths of soldiers. Meeting Dwarf King Fafnir on the field, Fafnir revealed himself as an adult copper dragon. The two engaged in ferocious battle, but Moraphan used his dark magic to banish Fafnir from the plane. Seeing this, King Sylra leapt into battle against Moraphan himself. The two dueled till Moraphan was incapacitated. The battle was won at last as the sun broke the thick ash clouds. Moraphan went silent after his defeat, simply saying to Sylra at his sealing:
"You have doomed this world to unending conflict and war, it will burn and I will watch. Knowing your failure has been made complete" -Moraphan the Crimson Lord
The sealing of Moraphan took such powerful magic, such arcane force, that it caused a vortex of constant storm. This storm becoming known as the Great Maelstrom. At the storm's center, thousands of leagues beneath the surface lies Moraphan imprisoned by arcane means. The Maelstrom itself was so powerful it too had to be magically contained, and it was it's faltering that caused what would be known as the Great Collapse, the event that would leave it's mark forever in history. Its said some saw Moraphan himself riding a chariot of ash through the sky, but this was deemed untrue by the mages responsible for maintaining his sealing. This rumor is just one example of Moraphan's continued affect on Aeris. The scars he left upon the world still remain, and the wastes of eastern Alea are evidence of this. He's become a boogyman, a monster to frighten children to do their chores, or a tall tale for soldiers to tell of why they lost a battle. But indeed sealed he remains, for 7,033 years since his final uttered words.

Intellectual Characteristics

Moraphan was unknowable, but those who faced him, or in rare cases spoke with him told of his unmatched cunning and intellect. A master manipulator and leader Moraphan used his skills to conquer all of the Known World save a few cities.

Morality & Philosophy

In the time of Moraphan's conquests he spoke of the unification and remaking of the world through his domination. He did not simply want to conquer for sake of ruling or for power, but instead wanted to bring peace to Aeris by way of what he called "The Final War". He saw himself as the ultimate power already, and simply wanted to use it to reach his goals of destroying the creations of the Gods and remaking them himself. He viewed the Free Peoples of Aeris as unfit to rule, their petty squabbles and greed disgusted him. He decried the authority of the High Gods, and openly mocked their existence by destroying their creations and twisting their people. Even the Low Gods he labeled as too divided to win any divine conflict. He hated the Elves and saw them as his greatest enemy due to their immense skill, and vast knowledge acquired over centuries of life, and beyond before time's beginning. Moraphan would go from stronghold city to stronghold city speaking in a booming voice to the free peoples who remained. He spoke of his plans for the world, of his vast power, his complete control of their feeble lives. For entire days and nights the inhabitants would get no sleep as The Crimson Lord's sickening voice kept them awake with dark rhetoric. The intricacies of Moraphan's philosophy are not known however, and all that remains is a few written manuscripts of some of his speeches.
