Staff of Livras

Livras was a wizard who lived just prior to The Unforging. His research into necromantic magic brought him both allies as well as foes who objected to his research. Livras' view was that the school of Necromancy was about both life and death, but some academic colleagues felt that his studies crossed the line with the gods themselves.   Livras created an experimental magic item - a staff that could take energy from the target and bestow it upon the user or another of the user's choice. The want is said to have the power to raise the dead, although it is not known if this is true nor is it known how long after death that the deceased can be brought back, even if it was true. It is also believed that years are somehow artificially added to the user's life when energy is drained from the target.   The Staff is 6' long and is made of a unique larchwood, which is known to hold or channel magical energy. The entire length of this staff has been carefully painted with intricate patterns, leaving only the handle untouched, which has been wrapped in embellished leather.   The top of the staff is pictured as being decorated with two wing shapes - one a bat wing and the other a bird wing - that gently orbit around in a spinning motion.   The top wings are made out of exceptional metal which has been decorated with several runes that have been magically inscribed and are said to enhance the magic of the wielder.   The wand was lost and has not been seen for hundreds of years. It is assumed to be in Livras' tomb, which has never been found. It is said that he never really died, but actually passed on from this world to the otherworldly or another plane of existence.
