Feast of the Forge

While anyone you ask would easily associate the Dwarves with the mountain and the forge, few actually grasp how much these stout folks really revere the fire bending the metal they work. Even those who spent extended periods of time working with them do not always grasp that depth.   Indeed, they even bring it over to their table, if you would believe it! Now, this isn't a jest. They truly do love the stuff! It's even ingrained into their habits and most of all the important milestones in a dwarf's life. Coming of age, wedding, that sort of stuff. Any food to be provided in that moment? Then they turn to these weird sources of heat to cook it (though I must admit, I admire the courage some of these require, and I'm impressed by the results - apparently the food isn't burnt at all, contrary to what I expected!)   The more important the event, which itself is determined by a mix of the event type itself and the importance of the people involved, the more reckless they get. A wedding will often boast a feast roasted directly above or beside a stream of lava, and some important wealthy people might have their food brought over to the literal plane of fire to achieve that "perfect roast"! I'd call them lunatics, if not for the fact that A) I do not wish to make an enemy of the whole of dwarfdom, and B) as ridiculous as this is, I've seen too many food related craziness while writing these books to be *that* surprised anymore.   The ritual that perhaps has the most stable incredible heat source for the food is usually a dwarf's coming of age. The stew served there is essentially just cooked by dumping a chunk of red-hot metal in it! They have some tradition about what the chunk of metal is made out of, too, something about mining the metal yourself and adding a piece of your parents' chunk of metal to it. I'll admit, I didn't pay much attention to the metal forging part. Look, I'm a food girl! Plus, they had literally just dumped a piece of glowing metal the size of a child's head in stew, I was kinda distracted!
