Salties (saltwater Lorn)
This world is very much a work in progress, so please forgive any continuity mishaps
Salties are the oceanic variant of Lorn, arguably the main species from which freshies derived. Larger and darker than their cousins, salties tend to also have more Lines/lumin, larger tails, and bigger and darker eyes.
They tend to have larger and more decorated crowns, and have a predominantly meat diet.
Salties are also more traditional and standoffish, preferring the company of their own species over other species.

Family names
Lorn don't tend to have family names, or last names at all. If they want an identifying name, they usually choose a second name. Often hatchery-born children will take an indentifier from the name of their hatchery or deepwater (trench), such as kin-Lónní (born of - Lónní). Children raised by their birthparents will take their mother's name, such as kin-Maírne (born of - Maírne).
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Altari is the main language of the Lorn, however due to the very spread-out nature of the species, they have many main dialects. There are also differences between salty Altari and freshie Altari, so much so that many language scholars have considered classing the freshie Altari as a separate language altogether. This has met with some resistence, as many Lorn are concerned this will only serve to widen the gap between the two groups.
Main oceanic dialects are Cyendathi, used by the trench-dwellers in the deep regions of the south sea; Ikkaric, used by the tropical groups in the northern seas; and Eoctivian, spoken by several coastal groups around the Zaerliran territories as a blend of Altari and the Zaerliran language.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Depending on how close the community lives to shore, skin color tends to determine attractiveness. In the deepwaters, darker skin is beautiful, closer to shore, lighter skin is preferred. Their crowns are the Lorn's pride and joy, and great pains are taken to decorate and care for their crown. Much like a bowerbird, a tastefully decorated crown is often the way to catch your lady's eye.
Courtship Ideals
Courtship is a very showy process. Every year around the same time, maybe during the summer, when their colors are brightest, there is the Parel. The Parel is when all the single Lorn get together in the cities (or maybe a specific coral reef or something idk) and basically parade around at a festival, showing how pretty they are.
Relationship Ideals
Lorn tend to have seasonal relationships, staying with a mate for a season and choosing another the next season.
Major organizations
Paean Thalassen, Song of the Sea: the Lorn temple of Anwo.
