The Underground Sewer System
Story Relevance: During the opening scenes of the story, Arc and Finn are given a job from Frith to rescue a young girl who had wandered into the sewer system to look for her father. While they are underground, they find her and rescue her from a monster in the water. During this encounter, they meet Cara who is drawn by the young girl’s cries.
Geography
Frewen has a very sophisticated and modern sewer system (for its time, of course). Instead of crudely dug tunnels, the sewer system is lined with carefully crafted bricks and arches. A trench filled with the sewer water flows between 2 walkways, often bridged with stone pathways. The sewer system goes throughout the whole city and even services the castle (which is conveniently connected the dungeons). Lamps are posted along the walls and are well lit for an underground complex. Within the corridors, there are built living quarters for sewer workers and open areas for communal space. In some of the heavily congested places under central areas of the city, the sewers are open and multi-tiered, with cobblestone staircases going to and from each level.
