The Lost Temple of Salamar

The party arrives in the Temple of Salamar in search of evidence to use against Ghallus that he is indeed evil and dangerous. Upon initial exploration of the temple, they discover the murals detailing his destruction of Alda and also other mass destruction done by other Keepers. This alone is enough to convince the party that Ghallus is dangerous and must be stopped. However, the party further explores the ruins and become trapped in a lower level of the temple. Here they must solve puzzles and escape traps (much like Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider) until they discover the Key of Alda and the Foxwood Scroll. Nobody is sure what they are and Frith decides to show his mother the scroll, thinking the language written might be an ancient dialect of Solima. After leaving the temple, they decide to journey to the farm town of Takka, Frith’s hometown.

Purpose / Function

The Temple was built to honor the Keeper Ghallus after the destruction of Alda. It was also built with a large altar room to temporarily house the Arvalis if ever the need arose. After it's denizens were murdered, the Temple was changed to honor the Keeper Salamar.

Architecture

The architecture is similar to the style in Ataxigira mixed with an ancient Thai look. Inside the temple, there are many rooms, halls, and levels. Today it resembles something you’d see in Tomb Raider, full of traps and statues. In the main hall, there is a fountain that still has water running through it, draining into a well below the temple.

History

The Temple of Salamar was a temple built in the days following the destruction of Alda. Shortly after Ghallus became the Keeper, he obliterated the continent of Alda and took up residence in SkyeKeep in Silverspire. In response, the people of Baasan built the temple as a monument to his greatness and power. Most of the people in the world did not know about Alda’s destruction and only knew that Ghallus has become the Keeper, however, word had traveled to Solima, and particularly the Isle of Baasan and the people there. After building the temple, they decorated the interior walls with murals depicting the history of the Arvalis and its respective Keepers. For Ghallus, they detailed his destruction of Alda and his works. They even made a mural about the subsequent temple in Foxwood where the Arvalis had temporarily been housed. The original worshippers and builders of the temple named in the Temple of Ghallus in his honor. However, after a couple of weeks, the temple was raided by and the worshippers were killed. Word of Alda’s destruction had spread to a group of fanatics who were outraged that Ghallus would commit such a heinous act. They took over the temple and renamed it the Temple of Salamar. They believed Salamar to be the pinnacle of greatness in Keepers and regard him as the last true Keeper. They kept and maintained temple for over a hundred years. They even came into possession of the Key of Alda and the Foxwood Scroll. However, after about 150 years, the temple became abandoned and fell into ruin. In the centuries since, the temple has been forgotten and lost. Today the temple is overgrown and broken down.
