Realm Day
Realm Day is a holiday held in celebration of the forming of the Realm of Aerlon as a kingdom. Originally held in early July, Queen Margarete Estrid Vaeronel V changed the holiday to officially fall on the autumnal equinox.
The queen's reason for moving the holiday was twofold. First, the long stretch of time between Highsummer and Hallow's Eve meant that the common folk had to go through over four full months of intense labor and work during the hot summer months without any proper opportunity for celebration. Most subjects of the Realm are not elves and thus tend not to celebrate Moonweaver's Day, and so moving the holiday to September helped to break up this long period. Second, the autumnal equinox was historically the day when most farmers and laborers would begin the harvest process, preparing for winter and gathering crops to sell. By placing the holiday then, Queen Margarete hoped that this day of fun would be well received between the back-breaking work of summer and the equally back-breaking work of harvest.
Historians have generally agreed that the shift was favorable for the kingdom and helped to appease the common folk.
