Lord

Lord (for men) and lady (for women) is a title/honorific bestowed upon an individual in rule of a particular location. It carries no particular rank in and of itself, being more accurately a form of address given to someone holding a proper political or royal rank. It is the proper honorific given when someone is not sure of the receiver's formal title, but is also considered an acceptable address otherwise.
