All Hallow's Day
All Hallow's Day, sometimes called the Feast of Spirits, Feast of the Dead, or Day of the Dead, is a holiday which takes place on November 1st, immediately proceeding All Hallow's Eve. All Hallow's Dead is the veneration of the dead; loved ones who have left but will be rejoined someday, and remembrance of the fallen. It is usually marked by a large meal, family lighting candles for those fallen, and visits to local graveyards, and candlelit vigils are commonly practiced in the evening. The holiday coincides with the time when the veil between the Prime Material Plane and the Ethereal Plane is thinnest. Many settlements near rivers or the ocean float candles on the water as the day draws to a close, as guides for the spirits which had visited over the past day to find their way back home.
Despite its macabre exterior, All Hallow's Eve is usually not intended to be a strictly solemn occasion, but one that celebrates the lives of those no longer among the living.
