Personal history

His father was one of the mages that worked on Project Aeloria that created Xania. His mother was an ash fey. When he was young, his father fled Aldrana with Derrex after Project Aeloria was aborted. He had been one of the mages to survive the slaughter and had managed to smuggled out one of the children. In doing so, he became a wanted man and put his family at risk. There was no good place for them to hide since both the Techie and Mage governments wanted his father dead. Because of this, his father focused more on ensuring that the legacy of the project lived on and that the child he saved had a chance at surviving. To do this, he attempted to pass his son over to a friend in Bethany, but he was jumped by a gang and killed. This left Derrex in the city to fend for himself without fully understanding his father's history.
Derrex was rescued by Joban and because of this he was able to survive on the streets of Bethany, joining the ranks of a group of homeless children led by Joban. When they got older, the joined The Faithful of the Eternal together with the dream that they could make the world a better place. Joban assigned Derrex to protect Xania because of his history and because Derrex wanted to fullful his father's goal of helping the children of Project Aeloria. When meeting Xania, he did not know that she had no memory of her past and didn't know what she was. He imagined that she could become a powerful force for good if she trained herself to control her abilities.

Education

He was formally trained as a mage as a young child and because of this training, has come to believe that he does not have much magical ability. What he doesn't understand is that he has inhereted his mother's abilities and that makes his magic align with the fey use rather then mage training. For the mages, magic is a matter of learning and training, but for the fey magic is about feeling and becoming connected with the world around them.

Mental Trauma

When he was in his early 20s, he met a woman nameed Serene and he married her. She was a fey. Her magical abilties were discovered and the Techies attacked during their wedding where Serene was killed. This trauma has further fueled his rage and hate towards the Techie Kingdom.
