John Dinkster

Hailing from the continent of Creta and currently residing in Jahal Cove, John Dinkster had lived a mostly unremarkable life until now. Having grown up on the seas, Dinkster eventually took on a variety of jobs working on ships, transporting cargo, and generally living the life of a sailor. It was during this time that he met a Naktalian girl named Kacey, with the two falling love and eventually having a child together, named John Jr. (affectionately referred to as "Dinklet.") All in all, things seemed to be going well for Dinkster.   But, as the years went on, the seas became a more dangerous place. While still profitable, cargo running became more of a risk, with swashbucklers and pirates alike beginning to flood the seas. And despite the moral questions that would arise, Dinkster soon himself delved into this field, beginning a life of crime. Running with a variety of gangs (including the Skooma Divers, a local gang led by a man named Chip McCormick), Dinkster made a name for himself as a skilled thief. Unfortunately for him, the bad habits of the unpleasant company he kept began to rub off on him as his thefts became more dangerous and frequent, and as he developed a crippling addiction to the addictive substance known as "Skooma," something that made his family deeply uncomfortable.   After a job gone wrong, an intoxicated Dinkster was used as the fall guy for the Skooma Divers, being put away as the sole culprit for a failed robbery while the rest of the Divers got off scot-free. Returning home from prison, he found his old crew now hostile towards him, his stash of Skooma gone, and his family now even more distant, sending him further down the path of crime. After being arrested for assaulting a famous retired wrestler and attempting to steal his golden belt, Dinkster was brought upon a Royal Navy Prisoner's Ship, where he was thrown in a cell with three other prisoners. However, following a betrayal by one of the guards, Dinkster was freed, and managed to escape with his new allies as the ship sank into the ocean's depths.   Deciding to stick together following their escape, Dinkster and his new crew made their way to the island of Jahal, navigating their way through a perilous swampland and down towards the trading port of Jahal Cove, allying themselves with a Gatorfolk hunter named Slaw Greene along the way. It is here where Dinkster checked his family's home, finding a letter from Kacey informing him of her intention to return to Naktal with their child until Dinkster can clean up his act. Upon striking a deal with Governor Jacob Meade, the group disposed of some purple-robed cultists inside a volcano before coming face-to-face with a Mind Flayer, which delved deep into Dinkster's mind, digging into his deepest insecurities and nearly killing him before the timely arrival of Abraham Morgan.   It seems that this incident sparked something within Dinkster, as following this incident, Dinkster quit drinking Skooma cold turkey, seemingly intent on turning his life around. Setting up in the mysterious hidden stronghold of Dublith temporarily, Dinkster and the crew ran several odd jobs, including fighting off a group of mercenaries and recruiting an undead Elven woman named Ziaka. The crew soon came face-to-face with the figures in purple robes from the volcano again, this time having set up in a secluded cove outside of Creta, having kidnapped and experimented on several members of a nearby crew. While the crew was successful in saving many of the hostages, and in convincing one of the crewmen (a blind sharpshooter named Victor Price) to mutiny, the group was ultimately successful in completing their ritual, seemingly summoning a gigantic squid-like creature, which took the life of one of Dinkster's crewmates as it fled.   Following this incident, the group began making plans for an infiltration of Kingsport, the Royal Government's capital, as a trusted source of Morgan's had received word of a gathering of the highest-ranked of the Navy's officials happening on Festivus, the last day the year. When preparing for this, the group ended up in the independent city of Waterdeep, where upon rescuing a pair of kidnapping victims, Dinkster became the co-owner of Trollskull Manor, a once-great manor and tavern, which the group plans to rebuild. Following this, the crew captured themselves a Royal Navy ship, before engaging in a conflict with Viona Zarr's Sea Devils (one of the sea's oldest pirating groups) and the Royal Navy's 8th Division over a fragment of Alexander Morgan's fabled map. During this battle, Dinkster managed to slay Zarr's second-in-command, gaining himself a Golden Scimitar marked with a familiar yet mysterious symbol.   With the map fragment recovered, the crew regrouped with Morgan and Steady, and upon attaching their fragments together, the group received a vision, seemingly showing visions of Alexander Morgan from nearly six hundred years in the past. Following this, with the plans for the Kingsport expedition fully laid out, Dinkster once again ran across his old gang in Jahal Cove. Sneaking onboard at the request of Governor Meade to sabotage them, Dinkster overheard several members speaking poorly of him and his family, which led Dinkster to set their Skooma supply alite, blowing up their ship along with it. Following a series of events, along with a kidnapping of his dog by Chip, Dinkster and his allies (along with Governor Meade) put an end to the Skooma Divers once and for all, along with discovering signs of a group of thieves who had infiltrated Meade's vault in the meantime.   With a clear goal ahead of him to clean his act up for his family, Dinkster has already come quite far. However, he still has a ways to go. And with this, he seems to have fully devoted himself to helping out his crew's cause as well, both being an active part of the hunt for Alexander Morgan's Last Gift, as well as involving himself in Daedalus's hunt for vengeance. How the rest of Dinkster's story will play out is yet to be told...
