Personal History
Merek was born the youngest of seven siblings, though before he reached adulthood three of his older siblings had passed away from varying causes. Merek grew up in a wealthy home, though he saw that as something to taking advantage of and always believed that an individuals position should be earned by merit.At a young age, Merek became very interested in magic and taught himself just enough to be accepted as a student of Meridia Haventree, where he became good friends with Xavier Arypel. Xavier, the heir to the throne of Arkham, became his peer and rival, and while Merek was always a superior spell caster, they maintained a strong friendship for many years.
At the age of 14 he became a hunter for the Silver Hawks, who were the worst hunting squad at the time. His passion quickly inspired his fellow hunters and his new squad quickly became the highest ranked. In his second year as a hunter he won the annual Hunter Tournament for the second year students and was immediately promoted to a senior hunter. As his squads vice-captain position had been vacated a couple weeks prior and he had shown himself to be a skilled hunter, Merek was also promoted to vice-captain following his victory. When Dorn outcasts tried to invade northern Balefire and form their own country, Merek was among the hunters involved in what quickly became a war. After Merek played a key role in winning several battles, the Dorn outcasts issued a run on sight order for Merek, meaning that if any of their soldiers came into contact with him, they were to retreat immediately unless he was greatly outnumbered. At the age of 17 Merek became the youngest captain in the history of the hunters and only 3 years later he became the Grandmaster of Balefire after his predecessor became the Overseer.
