The Shadow - Goddess of Dark Magic
The Shadow is unique amongst all God's in that she was once a mortal woman. A prominent wizard in a previous age, the drow woman was obsessed with any and all arcane knowledge who quickly rose to a prominent position within the burgeoning Mageocracy of Thros. Her specialised research brought her much renown within the arcane obsessed society and the power that followed it ensured she stayed there. She quickly outstripped her colleges and selfishly hoarded her knowledge from her peers.
In time however, she grew greedy and travelled to the great Archive of Myrannon. This archive was the single largest collection of knowledge of both divine and arcane magic in the entire world and, as such, doubled as a grand temple to Myratha. There she stole into its vast depths and consumed the knowledge gathered by the goddess herself. Much of this ancient knowledge was not fit for mortal eyes and merely beholding it drove the woman to madness.
By the time Myratha discovered the intruder the Drow had become the most powerful sorceress in the land. The goddess found her in the midst of a terrible ritual to achieve godhood. She struck out at the sorceress but with bewildered at the strength of her arcane Counterattack.
A battle of enormous proportion erupted around them as the two powerful beings sought to destroy one another. The goddess grew frightened in this moment and knew what she must do to avoid catastrophe. She struck the wizard with an underhanded curse, teleported above her archive and basted her magic downward into her beloved library with enough strength to shatter the small continent it stood upon. This drastic measure was in vain much to her later dismay. Deep within the depths of the archive while wracked with unbearable pain and the walls collapsing around her, the Drow wizard completed her ascension ritual, forsaking her name and becoming The Shadow.
Using her new godly powers she escaped the destruction of Myrannon by tearing a portion of the archive from the material plane and transporting it to the realm of Hades. There she has dwelled since, using the remnants of Myratha's archive to begin her only profane collection of dark arcane knowledge. She seeks a way to end her debilitating curse and finally return to the material plane.
The Shadow has been mutated and twisted by the curse placed upon her by Myratha. Her Drow upper body had remained mostly untouched, however her pale skin has become shiny and chitinous like an insect's hide. Her hair has fused with the teal and silver headdress she wore as a mortal woman creating a huge almost beetle-like profile under which the remnants of her silver hair emerges behind her. Her lower body has shifted dramatically into that of a scorpion. The large front pincers and the eight arachnid-like legs are broken and twisted from the curse thrown by the Goddess of Knowledge. Her twin, stinger-tipped tails weigh heavily behind her while her insectoid wings are similarly withered causing her to painfully hobble around using her staff for support or to use her considerable magic to levitate from one location to another.
