Vassalheim Overview

the capitol of Vassalheim is thought to be the first bastion of civilization. Indeed, when the Elder Gods first made man, it is believed that they did so from this spot. It is sometimes referred to as the "Dawn City" or "Cradle of Creation" because it is considered to be the first city of civilization and religion. With a population of a little over 228,000 denizens, you can expect to find an equal part of every race in various districts of the city.   The surrounding terrain outside the city limits is harsh and the farther north you go, the worst odds one has. This has created a very stern and rugged people where respect, rules, and order are of the highest value. Additionally, due to its societal and religious importance, you can imagine that this city has been the victim of attacks throughout the centuries. Regardless of this, the city has never fallen to a siege or succumbed to an attack by means of man, beast, or demon. This however has in turned created a taboo amongst the denizens where the arcane arts are very frowned upon. They are by no means illegal but if someone began to cast powerful spells that were not given by divine means, suspicion would quickly fall upon them. If there was a public display of such actions, a warning would be given followed by a small fine and possibly even jail time.   The city's government is a theocracy. Each district of the city (and more importantly, the gods they represent) have equal status. Each district is self-governed by the highest lord of its priesthood: the "Dawn Marshal". In matters concerning the city as a whole, the Dawn Marshals meet in council to debate and decide on the matter. Vasselheim has many guards, collectively called "the Bastion", that consist of volunteers from the various religions. The Bastions primarily operate within their respective districts but also serve as the militia if the city were to be attacked.   Vasselheim has many walls, varying in age and composition, armed with dragon-headed ballistae. The streets are unpaved and made mostly of packed mud. The only conventional way to enter the city is by foot, as the journey to Vasselheim is considered a religious pilgrimage. In the case of an emergency, a haphazard airship platform has been constructed on top of a mill. The city is built around a massive mountain known as the Heaven's stair, it is believed this is where the first creations from the Elder's came down from.   Abundant Terrace: The abundant Terrace covers the entire eastern side of Vassalheim. This area is dedicated to Melora. As such, this district is capable of supplying most of the cities food requirements. While lacking in variety and relying on imports for such commodities, it is more than capable of creating and supplying the city with enough food to survive. Many times in the past during attacks or sieges to attempt to lay waste to the city, the Terrace and its reserves have been able to supply its people and soldiers. There is a great enchantment covering the whole area which keeps it in a constant state of summer to ensure that no matter what weather may befall the rest, there shall always be food. The main temple for Melora here is an ascending series of gardens that end with a tree surrounded by a pool. The Bastions that patrol here are known as Glade-Keepers. The Dawn Marshall is a male Tiefling named Ebir.   Braving Grounds: The Braving Grounds are in the center of the third ring. This area is dedicated to Azerus. The proud warrior type clergy that patrol this section are called Brass Fists. Here one will find The Crucible, a large arena where every year chosen fighters of each god come to face each other in combat during the Day of Challenging. The main temple to Azerous is called the Trial Forge, at its entrance stands a massive statue of the God that overlooks the whole district. The Trial Forge itself serves as a place of worship, meditation, and physical challenges with the purpose to improve ones self. The Dawn Marhsall is a large Human man, Chalu Solebros.   Dusk Meadow: The Dusk Meadow district, which can be found on the north western outer ring, is dedicated to the worship of the Raven Queen. The Bastions here are fewer in number but are known as the Trust of Winter. The Raven's Crest is a grand gothic cathedral type building which serves as the main temple for worship. As you may have guessed, the dead of Vasselheim are taken here and only the priest hood may enter the vast and expansive catacombs where the dead may rest. The prison of Vasselheim, the Amaranthine Oubliette is also in this district. A location known as the Velvet Caberet is more towards the southern side. The Dawn Marshall is a female Firbolg without a name, she does respond to "Crow".   Gracious Hands: Gracious Hands, the western side of the third ring, is the district dedicated to worship Amara. It is considered the poorest part of the city where many denizens have fallen onto harder times. The temple here is a large but modest placed in the center to be equal distant to anyone who may need them. The bastions that roam the area are less like guards and more like priests or clerics and are called the Giving Lights. The Dawn Marshall is a Half-Elven Man, Arodithas.   Hammer's Cradle: The Hammer's Cradle, or just Cradle for short, can be found on the southern second ring and is the district for Torog. This area serves as the cities industrial complex. Walking the streets you will hear the constant sound of hammers hitting anvils, you will feel the heat from the furnaces, and you will see large shipments of metal parts or pieces being moved around via beasts of burden and carts. This district does not have a temple as the mountain that overlooks them all is seen as such. Underneath it lies a cobalt mine and most of what they find is brought here to be refined, tampered, and bundled to be sold or shipped. The Bastions that roam are known as the Black Ring. The Dawn Marshall is a Male Dragonborn, Tholkak Belfrus.   Quad-Roads: The Quad Roads take up the entirety of the fourth ring, this place is dedicated to Moarus. This district is where most of the cities denizens live. In the center is the cities courthouse which also serves as the main temple. And the district with the largest amount of Bastions are known simply as The Balance. The Dawn Marshall is Firour Amberforge, a Dwarven man.   Restless Quarter: The Restless Quarter which is on the outer most ring on the south western side, is dedicated to two gods, Kord and Sehanine. Seeing as the two Gods share a tenuous relationship, the followers found it fitting that their district be the same as well. Their temples however, are located on opposite ends from one another, Kord being to the north and Sehanine being the south. This district is home to many warehouses and places of business that require a much larger scale than a simple merchant selling his wares. Large shipments of materials, goods, and foods are exported from these warehouses. The Bastions that safeguard these valuable buildings are known as the Untamable. The Dawn Marshall is Lupni, a Ghomish woman.   Seeker's Tomb: The Seeker's Tomb district which the eastern most in the third ring, is the dedicated worship zone for Erathis. In this district you will find the guilds of Vasselheim as well as a collage and the Cobalt Vault. One of the largest libraries in Aemon serves as the temple and Bastions that serve as the strictest librarians you've ever known, are called Seekers. The Dawn Marshall is Haldir Inakis, an Elven Man.   Silver Talon Reach: Silver Talon's Reach is the center most district of Vassalheim and is the district for the Platinum Dragon, Bahumat. The Scale Bearers here are the fewest of the Bastions but many will say that the weakest Scale Bearer could be the strongest of any other Bastion group. In this district are various larger buildings and courtyards and the temple itself is where the Dawn Marshal's gather in times to discuss and plan for the city as a whole. The Dawn Marshall is Seven Lightning (Seven), a female Tabaxi.   Tyrant's Rest: Tyrant's Rest is on the western most edge of the second ring and is the district for Gruumashkt. While Vassalheim does not officially have a military presence, as most of that duty falls upon the Bastions in times where they are needed, this district could be considered its military zone. Bastions of all types will come here to train with or against each other, siege weapons are put together here, and there are many barracks and housing for the Bastions that need them. The one's dedicated to Gruumashkt himself are seen with a certain eye of scrutiny considering the God's reputation but they are known as the Tyrant's Chosen. The Dawn Marshall is Zoredash, a male Half-Orc.
