The Age of Betrayal

Era beginning/end

92BV

Long before the world was broken, the Betrayers walked among mortals. Dragons, once majestic, and the fairies, once allies, turned against creation. They sought power beyond mortal comprehension and tore a rift between realms, calling forth the Great Devourer: Yth'Zirath, the Devourer in the Void. This cataclysmic event plunged Aeloria into an age of darkness, marked by war, corruption, and the near annihilation of all that was good.

At the height of their heresy, the Betrayers plunged the world into chaos. A great war erupted as the righteous forces of the fey Kingdom of Nytheris Iluthar and the free peoples of Aeloria rose to combat the abyssal tide. The Betrayers, empowered by their pact with Yth'Zirath, wielded horrors beyond reckoning—shadowborn beasts, spells that defied the very fabric of the world, and the twisted magic of the fairies. The land was scarred, the skies darkened, and hope dwindled with each passing day.

Yet in the face of despair, a shadow deepened. Xal'Zirath, the Accursed, a once-great scholar turned prophet of ruin, gathered an army of the damned and led the final charge against the forces of order. It was then that the world was sundered—not by Xal'Zirath's will, but by the madness of the dragons themselves. In their final act of defiance, the Betrayers shattered the land, splitting the world into two continents: Avarion in the west and Sylvaris in the east.

On the eve of total ruin, the last great mages of Nytheris enacted the Veilbinding, sealing Yth'Zirath away, ending the Age of Betrayal. The cost was heavy, for Nytheris Iluthar did not survive the conflict. Yet the Betrayers were cast down, and though the world lay in ruin, it was saved from eternal hunger. Thus ended the Age of Betrayal, and the world was given a second chance.
