The Biology of the Monstrous

Chapter 28: The Biology of Vampires   There are three different types of vampires, True Vampire, Lesser Vampire, Vampire Spawn.   A True Vampire is the truest form of Vampirism, a true vampire is an ancient creature that hails originally from an unknown land. They are secretive and mysterious and seem to lack the bloodthirsty madness that has come to represent there lesser kin. One does not create a True Vampire like on would their lesser kin. A True Vampire is born as such. They still crave blood and need it to survive but they do not demand as much as the other types. A handful of True Vampires have ever been identified mostly they live on in folk tales. It is believed by some that many of the True Vampires were slain by their lesser cousins, mortals that they had turned.   Lesser Vampires is what many people identify as the only type of vampire. They are born of the dead and feast upon the blood of the living. Lesser Vampires are often times mad in some way, unlife has twisted them into a sick mirror of their former self. Much like there true cousins, they have the ability to turn people into vampires. In these cases, the vampire will normally use those they have turned as servents that are easily replaced.   A Vampire Spawn is what becomes of a mortal turned undead. They are a vampire but they are subservient to the one that created them. They lack the means to create other vampires and are far weaker than any other vampire. They are bound to their creator until they are granted freedom by drinking the blood of their master or their creator dies.   Vampires have a natural weakness to sunlight as well as running water. The exact reason is unknown. To kill a Lesser Vampire they need to found in their coffin (or place of resting) and have a stack jammed through their chest. Despite popular belief, decapitation will not kill a vampire and they have no weakness to a stake outside of their resting place.
