Fawn

Basic Information

Anatomy

Upper body
Fawn’s upper bodies are mostly elvenoid in shape. Their faces tend to be delicately pointed, much more so than an elf, with large and expressive eyes. They have long pointed ears that more often than not point downwards, but can also point upwards. They also possess antlers (even the women) that never actually shed unless it’s sustained an injury. They also have a soft, deer-shaped nose.   The torso resembles that of an elf- slender, graceful, and agile, with long limbs and a narrow waist, covered in smooth skin that may have a faint sheen, similar to that of elves.   Their arms would have a elvenoid structure with dexterous hands. Their fingers might be slightly longer than a elf's, with sharp, nimble nails.   Lower body
The lower half is where the deer traits shine. Fawns can have two possible leg configurations:
  • Two Deer Legs: In this configuration, fawns have their upper body and torso largely humanoid, but their legs are entirely deer-like. The legs are long, strong, and muscular, ending in cloven hooves. This gives them a highly agile and fast running ability, allowing them to move quickly through forests or rough terrain. Their gait is a mix of bipedal and quadrupedal, meaning they can stand and walk like a human but are just as capable of running on all fours when necessary.
  • Four Deer Legs: This would make the fawn more similar to a centaur in functionality, with the torso of an elf sitting atop four powerful deer legs. This configuration would make them exceptionally fast and agile, able to outrun most predators and navigate forests with ease. It also provides more stability and strength for carrying burdens, similar to a quadrupedal creature, but still retaining the elven features of intelligence and dexterity.
Fawns have a long, bushy tail, much like that of a regular deer, which can be expressive, swishing in response to emotions.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Fawn are herbivores. They exclusively eat vegetation like grasses/leaves/mosses, fruits and berries, or sap.

Behaviour

Through the mind, fawn are have more of a deer-like brain. With their behaviour, they’re likely to be very alert and cautious, easily startled, social and herd-oriented, gentle, curious, and have a strong sense for survival.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Fawn social structure in Aeldrithius are based on the cooperative, protective, and matriarchal nature of deer herds. The focus would be on family bonds, mutual protection, and survival. While there would be leaders (mostly matriarchs and elders), the herd would prioritise harmony, socialisation, and the shared responsibility of keeping the young safe. Fawns, as naturally cautious and peaceful beings, would thrive in this interconnected and symbiotic community structure.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Their meat is very popular among elves, and thus are often inhumanly raised in farms like cattle without any education.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Sight:
Fawns have exceptional vision, particularly in low-light conditions. Much like deer, they would possess a broader field of vision, allowing them to detect movement from the periphery. Their eyes are adapted to see in twilight and moonlight, making them excellent at navigating forests during the night.   Hearing:
Fawns have acute hearing, able to detect the faintest sounds, from the rustling of leaves to the footfalls of creatures far away. This ability would be particularly useful for avoiding predators or detecting the presence of others in the forest. And like elves, they have an added layer of auditory perception, able to distinguish subtle tones in speech or music, and detect emotional resonance in sounds. They might even be able to listen to sounds beyond human hearing range, such as the deep frequencies of the earth or the rhythm of magic.   Smell:
Fawns have an extraordinary sense of smell, able to detect the faintest traces of scents left by animals or people. They could track prey, locate sources of danger, or even sense the presence of plants and herbs with magical properties. And like elves, they can sense magical auras through scent, detecting the presence of enchanted beings or objects from a distance. This would also give them the ability to identify specific individuals by scent, helping them recognise allies or foes in a crowd.   Empathy
Drawing from their deer orn heritage, fawns would possess a heightened sense of empathy. They could sense the emotions of others, feeling shifts in mood, tension, or even love and sadness. This ability would not only help them understand others on an emotional level but could also help them navigate social situations more effectively. In moments of heightened emotion or distress, they might be able to amplify this ability to feel the full depth of another's emotions.   Aura Perception:
Fawns are able to perceive magical or spiritual auras that surround individuals or places. This would give them the ability to detect enchantments, hidden magical objects, or individuals with strong mystical presences. They could also see the emotional or moral alignment of others, sensing if someone is lying, if their intentions are pure, or if they are influenced by dark magic.   Animal Communication:
Their unique connection to the animal kingdom would grant fawns the ability to communicate with animals, particularly deer or creatures of the forest. This communication would not be verbal, but more instinctual and telepathic, where fawns could convey their thoughts and intentions through gestures, emotions, or visual impressions. This ability would be especially helpful in interacting with creatures that might not understand the common tongue. This is unique to other folk that can communicate with animals, as that ability often presents verbally. The only other species able to exhibit this non verbal trait are the satyr.   Forest Sense:
Fawns have an innate connection to the natural world, allowing them to sense disturbances in the environment, such as changes in the weather, the movement of animals, or even shifts in the land itself. This extrasensory ability would make them excellent guardians of the forest, able to detect threats long before they arrive. They might also be able to communicate with the forest in a more metaphysical way, gaining insights from the land, trees, or ancient spirits that inhabit it.   Magic:
Like elves, fawn have a natural inclination towards magic, allowing them to draw from nature and its energies to cast spells or craft well-made portions.

History

Fawn have existed since day 1 of Aeldrithius, being the oldest species in all of the planet with elven features, predating actual elves ironically despite them sharing a genetic background. They started out as an all-ruminant animal kingdom named Cairnwood in Illyria, ruled by their god Akoiti. They’ve always treated other species, even ones outside of their class as mammals, with great respect, guiding them like older siblings.   Eventually though, they became tired of having split borders with other kingdoms, and so merged with the god Avlia’s kingdom. They were tempted to merge with Mathiko’s kingdom, but they didn’t like the overall grandstanding nature of the god and how it influenced the mammals that lived within his kingdom.   While that was happening, some groups within Cairnwood decided to venture west to see what was out there, creating inter-connected city-states for the fun of it. This happened approximately 60 years before the elves arrived on Illyria. Cairnwood and its neighbouring kingdom refused them passage, knowing about their violent ways, but the city-states wanted to give them a second chance, and allowed them through to settle in the north. Everything was fine until the elves decided they wanted to expand, where they promptly attacked and conquered many city-states. Eventually, all of the city-states fell to Virdanora, and it wasn’t until the satyr arrived that they were freed again.
