Lexica Compact

"History is the mirror by which the features of the future may be seen."
— Fendal the Great, Archmaster of the Lexica Compact

Remnants of Former Glory

Once, centuries ago, the Magicarum ruled all of Aedrothin with their magical dominance. Following the magocracy's collapse, magic fell into disfavor, and so the mages became chroniclers of the history and lore surrounding their fall. From these roots the Lexica Compact grew into a prestigious repository of information that increased literacy and education amongst the unlearned, and with the guild's rise so too did the outlook on magic and mages until once more they regained the respect of their peers.

Guild Services

Where once the Lexica Compact resented the scientific advances espoused by the Artiface Doctrine, they have since gained a mutual respect with their polar opposites. Often they provide background research for the tinkerers so that they can further master their craft. However, the Lexica Compact is more renown as teachers and historians than anything else.

UNLOCKABLE FEATS: The Way of Talent

Ritual Caster: Sorcerer

You have learned a number of spells that you can cast as rituals. These spells are written in a ritual book, which you must have in hand while casting one of them.
  • When you choose this feat, you acquire a ritual book holding two 1st-level spells of your choice.
  • You gain a Spellcasting ability from the Sorcerer class (Charisma) for spells that have the ritual tag.
  • If you come across a spell in written form, such as a magical spell scroll or a wizard's spellbook, you might be able to add it to your ritual book. The spell must be on the spell list for the class you chose, the spell's level can be no higher than half your level (rounded up), and it must have the ritual tag. The process of copying the spell into your ritual book takes 2 hours per level of the spell, and costs 50 gp per level. The cost represents material components you expend as you experiment with the spell to master it, as well as the fine inks you need to record it.

Magic Initiate: Sorcerer

You learn two cantrips from the mage class that you selected for Ritual Caster feat. In addition:
  • Choose one 1st level spell from the sorcerer's spell list. You learn that spell and can cast it at its lowest level. Once you cast it, you must finish a long rest before you can cast it again using this feat.

Metamagic Adept

You’ve learned how to exert your will on your spells to alter how they function:
  • You learn two Metamagic options of your choice from the sorcerer class. You can use only one Metamagic option on a spell when you cast it, unless the option says otherwise. Whenever you reach a level that grants the Ability Score Improvement feature, you can replace one of these Metamagic options with another one from the sorcerer class.
  • You gain 2 sorcery points to spend on Metamagic (these points are added to any sorcery points you have from another source but can be used only on Metamagic). You regain all spent sorcery points when you finish a long rest.

Eldritch Adept

Studying occult lore, you have unlocked eldritch power within yourself: you learn one Eldritch Invocation option of your choice from the warlock class.
  • If the invocation has a prerequisite of any kind, you can choose that invocation only if you’re a warlock who meets the prerequisite.
  • Whenever you gain a level, you can replace the invocation with another one from the warlock class.

War Caster

You have practiced casting spells in the midst of combat, learning techniques that grant you the following benefits:
  • You have Advantage on Constitution saving throws that you make to maintain your Concentration on a spell when you take damage.
  • You can perform the somatic components of spells even when you have weapons or a shield in one or both hands.
  • When a hostile creature's movement provokes an opportunity attack from you, you can use your reaction to cast a spell at the creature, rather than making an opportunity attack. The spell must have a casting time of 1 action and must target only that creature.

TRAINABLE FEAT

Multitasker

You can concentrate on maintaining two spells at a time, providing the following benefits:
  • You can maintain concentration on a spell even if you cast another spell that requires concentration.
  • Maintaining concentration on two spells imposes Disadvantage on your Constitution checks to maintain concentration. Casting a third spell that requires concentration ends one of the two previous spells (your pick).
