Moon Arcana

Three eyes to shine upon the night. Three widows crying for their long lost suns.

There is something trapped deep within. It howls but sings, it flies but crawls, it laughs but cries. It wishes to be free, longs for olden glory, but does not worry. Time will come, when the Queen takes her throne once more.

The Moon Arcana is one that is only found in Epreas and a select few other animal species. It is the only Arcana that cannot be normally learned : one must be born with it. This Arcana is responsible for the regeneration and the feathers of the Epreas. When the moons are visible in the sky, Epreas see their physical abilities greatly imroved and regenerate from injuries at an astounding rate, growing feathers on the resulting scars.

With age, beings that possess this Arcana start to change and adopt new forms under specific circumstances. Little is known about what triggers these transformations in the first place or why they happen, but every Moon Arcanist will transform at one point or another in their lives, with some of them getting stuck in these new forms forever. The transformation is uncontrollable and unavoidable. The Arcanist restains their mind while transformed, but they have absolutely no power over it.

The Renmaru

This transformation happens when all three moons of Aedrelon are full on the same night. The Artist's body becomes covered in white and purple feathers, their hair and eyes turning the same color. Their skin cracks and reveals glowing pink-ish veins underneath, their hands grow claws and their feet turn into talons. As a Renmaru, the Artist becomes almost immortal : their body regenerates even more and becomes capable of growing back cut off limbs or even completely reform a vital organ in a couple minutes. This transformation lasts as long as the Artist is exposed to the monns' light, and reverses if they take shelter or as soon as the sun rises.
With time, repeated transformations start to take their toll on the body. Some older Epreas, for example, are forever stuck in this form as their body cannot keep up with the changes : sunlight burns their skin and their eyes, causing them instense pain and making them blind and feeble until the next night when they can finally regenerate.

The Sifr

This transformation happens when all three moons are absent from the night sky of Aedrelon. Under three new moons, the Artist's body becomes covered in black fur and their eyes turn a milky white color. Their skin cracks to reveal glowing white veins underneath, their hands grow claws and their feet turn into talons. As a Sifr, the Artist is able to use all five of the basic Movements of Art as if their Arcane Signature naturally allowed it. This transformation lasts ultil the sun rises.
With time, repeased transformations start to take their toll on the body. Those who get stuck in this form become excessively frail when the sun is up : their skin burns and their eyes boil until night helps them regenerate.

Wether a Moon Arcanist becomes a Renmaru or a Sifr is seemingly entirely random. Some cases of Epreas being both were observed, but remain extremely rare.
