The Desolation

The event that brought an end to the Era of Esoterica and the hierarchy of power.

The event known as the Desolation is still surrounded by mystery. Seemingly at the height of its power, the empire of Aegisin fell quickly and catastrophically, taking a majority of the continent where it rest with it.   Many theories exist as to how this happened. Some say the power was too much in that great city, so much so that it collapsed upon itself through a mixture of mad science and unknown magic. Others insist that their knowledge grew too great, and as a show of strength, the Deities struck down the city and the land it stood on. No one truly knows what happened, as any who were close enough to see it were taken with the city.   Whatever the cause might have been, this event shook the realm to its core. Massive plates of land shifted and broke, and it seemed that the world itself would fall apart and drift away into the cold stars above. Yet somehow, be it through divine or natural means, the realm stitched itself together, barely holding on to the pieces that were closest to drifting away.   These pieces of land remained in the sky, seemingly anchored by whatever force keeps the planet together.   This event caused mass death throughout the realm, along with the downfall of many civilizations. To many it seemed like the world was reset to a more primitive state, far below the mastery of the arcane that was known prior.
