Vystos the Undying One (/vees-tos/)

A Chthonic and ascended mortal

Profile and Followers

Vystos the Undying One is the sacrilege god of lichdom, undeath, and secrets. He is characterized as a scheming and vile Deity, always knowing more than he should, and always plotting a way to corrupt or undermine another's power.   Vystos is often depicted as the most powerful lich that there ever was. As such, he is a skeletal man surrounded by powerful magical artifacts, and holds a cursed book with him, or within him. Being on the more theatric side, Vystos is always seen with golden adornments, despite his sunken skin and tattered wear.   Temples to Vystos exist scarcely throughout the world, and they are almost impossible to find. Instead of just worship to the Undying One, his followers work to find and hide away every arcane secret. The more they accumulate, the closer they are to finding the secret that Vystos unlocked, that being lichdom. With this being the ultimate goal of his acolytes, Vystos' followers are typically necromantic wizards attempting to achieve undeath. These wizards will build towers or dungeons and fill them with monsters to help protect their dark magics. These same wizards toil away doing the Undying One's bidding, until the day that they earn the coveted immortality they were searching. This process may take decades, centuries, or it may not happen at all.   It is said that the path Vystos the Undying One took to ascension was similar to the one he took to unlocking lichdom. Being the most powerful wizard of his time, he spent centuries increasing his lifespan and trying to find a way to achieve immortality. He did so and became history's first lich. But even that was not enough for Vystos, as he went after the greatest power of them all, the power of godhood. Performing an even more vile ritual than that of lichdom, Vystos took his place among the deities by force.
Commandments of the Undying One
  • Learn all you can, and keep hidden that which you know. Reveal what pieces you must, but never the whole.

  • Express and cultivate the evil within yourself, and in doing so, recognize it in others to exploit them for your own benefit.

  • Seed the ruin of all who worship other deities, until only those who kneel before the Undying One remain.
