S-082A Flechette
Stanni: S-082A Nuoli
Propulsion
A single 2 fan after burning jet turbine engine equipped with a variable thrust nozzle propels these crafts to tremendous speeds, aided by the lighter weight of the craft. This single point of propulsion along with only 1 vertical stabilizer make these planes very maneuverable, if not a little unstable. Feul for this thirsty engine is stored in the fuselage, wings, and usually external drop tanks to extended the fly time even further to almost 2 hours. The most obvious flaw with this craft was the placement of the front gear, which would occasionally kick up rocks and other debris into the air intake, which of course is less than optimal.
Weapons & Armament
2 single barreled cannons mounted in each wing very close to where it joins with the fuselage serve as the primary weapon for this craft aside for missiles. The cannons are each 22mm and fire at 2,330 rpm from 1,700 round drums. As an air superiority fighter, the standard hard point load out for Flechettes consist of 6 air to air missiles of the most asvanced variety for the era.
Armor and defense
2 flair dispensers mounted on the underside of the craft help in defense against missiles in addition to early warning systems that alert the pilot to when they are being locked onto from the air or ground. Later on in the aircraft's production, radar absorbent paint was also added to exterior surfaces as standard in 1983+ production models.
