Acentian Civil War
Charging Loyalists of the 7th Hussars
Counter-Charging Communists of the 12th Dragoons
A Matter of Sucession
In the year 1909, The king of Acentia, Alfonso The Great Died without an heir. This caused a massive sucsession crisis in which many politicians and illegitamate relatives began to fight for the trone, many utilizing mafia and gang connections to wage secret wars against eachother in the streets. For nearly a year, violence gripped Acentia and many new political parties and groups were formed aswell as militias. in 1910 the Acentian government (Rather what was left of it) attempted to hold a democratic election in which a Fascist government won with 19% of the vote. Obviously this goverment was not popular and wasnt even recognized by the now (illegitamate) King Richard Alvar. Over the following year many politicians and groups lobbied to oust the Fascists and some progress was actually made. That is until in 1911 when an extremley bad winter and spring caused a limited famine and the economy collapsed. Within days the Stock market crashed and the price of food skyrocketed as money became worthless. Three days later one of the most pivotal events of Acentias history would happen, A young man by the name of Kain Burka would rally more than 4000 communists to storm the ministry of the interior which would result in over 40 deaths of soldiers and civilians alike. The opening Shots
As the Ministry of the Interior burned and bloody red banners flew in the streets below, a young Kain Burka found himself in charge of a revolution. as more and more people joined the mob they began to march towards the Government headquarters in the central district of Acentia City. On the way they were joined by 300 armed men from the Red Guards Militia and 60 from the Black River Militia. as they aproached the Government plaza they were met by a large blockade manned by Royalist soldiers and armored cars. After being ordered to disperse and obviously refusing, the Army opened fire expecting the mob to disperse but instead the crowd roared and stormed forwards, over running the blockade in a matter of 30 minutes and managing to kill over 100 Royalist soldiers. During the attack more than 350 Communists were killed and twice that wounded, this would cause about an hour of regrouping and dealing with casualties before the communists began to move again. This pause gave the government time to bring in Reinforcements including 1000 men and a battery of field guns. When the attack cane, the communist forces stormed across the open ground of the Government District, falling in droves as the "patter patter" of machine guns echoed through the streets. once they were close enough rifle fire began to be exchanged and eventually enough revolutionaries managed to make it into one of the buildings of the ministry of finance to take and hold it allowing for the capture of the second building. after many hours almost half of the government complex was taken however both side were stretched thin and the government began to receive Reinforcements. almost 2,000 men from the 17th and 6th Regiments arrived in the late evening and and with this additional force the Crown forces attacked and within an hour, shattered the remaining communist forces. Kain, his command staff, and 850 revolutionaries managed to escape into the night and 2500 more were captured most of whom were shot for treason. The government thought that this would end the rebellion but those that were killed were seen by many as Martyrs and within a month of the battle Burka had already amassed nearly 10,000 other fighters and volunteers and had taken the city of Ilnus as his staging area. The War Expands
In the months after the fight in the capitol, the communist forces focused on building up thir forces and securing support from other nations such as the Pertorian Commonwealth who sent howitzers and other artillery to the communists. Once they had gathered some strength, a force of 6,000 men under General Svinkov moved on the City of Garas which was being defended by 1,000 men of the "88th Royal Regiment of Grenadiers". in Late July the communist forces arrived and began an assault on the town which promptly failed with 150 Rebels killed. After this they surrounded the city and began to dig trenches and siegeworks and the new Pertorian howitzers began to shell the town relentlessly and the troops settled in for a Siege. Meanwhile, on the other side of Acentia, a force of 500 Royalist Cavalry moved in and occupied the free port of Gallowdance with very little resistance. Two days later two Naval Torpedo Boats defect to the Rebels and attempt a mad dash out of the Naval base on Citidel Island. As they made their escape they managed to destroy a light cruiser called "RAS Midnight Howl" and the TBs slipped into the night. On the 1st of August, Garas fell without another assault occuring and most of the prisoners were let free, however almost 100 were shot as retaliation for those executed during the Battle of The Government District. Early in the morning of August 2nd, 2,400 men of the Facist "Black legion" took the City of Gallowdance from the royalists, causing large casualties on both sides. many other small engagements like this continued for the next two months and by November of 1911 more than 15,000 people had been killed and the city of Gallowdance had changed hands five times already. the war was expanding and it would only get bloodied from here.Who's Fighting, and Why
Royalist Forces
The Royalist government wad widely viewed as illegitamate, however that did not stop more than half of Acentia still believing in the monarchic system and believing that the usurper could be deposed and the correct king crowned. At this time, many older Acentians were extremely traditional and belived very much in the old ways. Therefore it was quite hard for many to come to grips with a new nation and so a good margin of Royalists were older generations. The Royalist Forces would fight valiantly during the war, mostly against Communist forces However eventually, divides between Usurperists and Alvarists within the Royalist faction came to blows and eventually led to the self-destruction and collapse of the Royalist government. The Peoples Republic
The second most powerful entity in the war was the Peoples Republic of Acentia. Led by the 27 year old Kain Burka, an avid Socialist and bright academic. The Socialists belived that the worker had been long abused and used by the Crown and now deserved to be held equal... workers and peasants from all across rural and industrial Acentia flocked to the Communist cause with promises of equal opportunities and wealth for all men. By the end of the War there was less support for the communist cause buy it was begining to be undeniable who would win the war and so support continued as a way to secure a place in the new Acentia and show loyalty to the new government. The Black Legion
The Legion was the military arm of the so called "Black party", a Fascist government which was elected during the unpopular election of 1910. only about 20% of the nation supported the Black party and less chose to fight for them. Their cause was mostly to keep their government in power and so mostly fought with the communists and attempted to stay neutral towards the Royalists. They fought for what they belived to be a perfect Fascist Democracy that they envisioned. The Black Legion was well equipped but lacked industry and unity and by the end of the war was mostly comprised of small terrorist cells and guerilla fighters. The Righteous Sons
By far the smallest of the main powers, The Righteous Sons were a militarized group of Orthodox Zealots that belived that Acentia had fallen from God and that God had tasked all Righteous men to restore the nation to its place at God's side. This was their belief on the outside but it is widely assumed that this was more a lie to attain followers in a bid by the clergy to take power. While they did see some success in the early years of the war, they were mostly beaten by 1916.Farmers Social Union
The FSU was a faction of rural Acentian farmers mostly in the northern parts of the nation. Many Farmers became disgruntled with the king in the years leading up to the war due to high taxes on grain and produce sales aswell as the unequal treatment of Rural counties. The FSU did not see much actual combat throughout the war and most of the combat that they did see took place at the beginning of the war. in 1918 The FSU formed an alliance with the PRA and within a month were annexed into the PRA.
