A Report on the Casualties of the First Modern Battle

After detailed evaluation and documentation, I, Dr. Vikren Scott, have compiled this, a report on the casualties of the first modern battle.   In the first attack by the Marines there were 110 killed and 98 wounded. This higher number of killed is due to the large number of hand to hand fighting seen in this attack as you shall see by the injuries documented.   Out of the men killed, 68 died of some form of penetrating or non-penetrating trauma to the head and neck. Weather that be Bullet wounds, shrapnel wounds, stabbing or blunt force wounds, additionally this includes 2 total and 4 partial decapitations.   15 men died of Gunshot or stab wounds to the torso including 8 dissembowelments.   14 men died of gunshot to stab wounds to the extremities including 3 from injury to the arm.   Additionally, 10 men died from total amputation of a limb, including legs and arms, hands and feet.   A further 2 men died from unknown causes, they had no trauma visible on the exterior of the body, however once an autopsy was preformed both patients were found to have significant organ damage including but not limited to, Collapsed lungs, internal hemorrhaging, crushed organs and some broken bones.   And 1 soldier peculiarly appears to have died from Drowning, as I have been told he tried to swim back to his ship but this I have yet to confirm.   As far as the wounded from this first day go   48 men were hospitalized for Penetrating or amputation wounds to the extremities, this includes gunshots, shrapnel and stab wounds aswell as explosive and slashing amputations.   Additionally 10 men were hospitalized for bunt force wounds to the extremities, torso, and head this includes 1 case of a man who's jaw had been so smashed that it had to be amputated   12 men were hospitalized for combat fatigue   And 28 men were hospitalized for other minor injuries such as broken bones, minor flesh wounds and a peculiar amount of splinter wounds as I have been told by an number of men that the enemy had placed small barrels of powder that were Rigged to explode all over the beaches but this is unconfirmed and I have somewhat less than full confidence in this idea.   In the following month the casualty numbers would dwindle, however the percentages of the Different types of injuries stayed relatively the same. Overall there would be 340 more casualties over the next month and this should be taken as a generalization of what the overall casualties were like over the course of the campaign
