Character Creation Guide
Where to Make a Character Sheet
We will be using this Roll20 game to keep track of character sheets. After each game your job as a player is to update the original sheet in this game. Before each game you will export the character sheet from this game into your vault, and then import it into the Dungeon Master's game for their session. Character Creation Step 1:Click on the pink "Launch Game" button on the page. Step 2:
Click on the "Newspaper" icon. This is where the character sheets will be posted. Step 3:
Find a character sheet titled "Copy of Blank Sheet". This is where we will store our character's information. Step 4:
When you initially open a character sheet the window will open to the "Bio & Info" tab. We need to be in the "Character Sheet" tab so click there next. Step 5:
After that we will be greeted with this prompt to select either "Use the Charactermancer", "Create an NPC", or "Edit Sheet Directly". I would reccomend you avoid using the charactermancer because I do not have access to all character creation options on Roll20 but the process is more intuitive if you are wanting a simple and easy character to start with. Instead I suggest you use 5e.Tools when editing directly. This allows you to copy and paste things directly onto your character sheet and allows for more customization options. And of course you can also always ping the Character Creation Help channel in the discord if you have any questions or need any advice. Step 6:
Ensure your character sheet is entirely filled out. This includes your personality traits/ideals/bonds/flaws, your backstory, a character description, inventory, skills, proficiencies, spells and all traits achieved from your race, class, background and feats. I suggest separating your traits with additional tabs to keep them organized. When it's done it should look something like this. Note:
When creating characters and their backstories, try to make sure that instead of forcing people to uncover ‘the tragic tale of your family’s demise’ or other things, you instead engage with their characters motives as well. No one likes super edgy characters that don’t talk to anyone or don't care about anything. If you want any tips on making a background people will want to discover, feel free to ask your fellow adventurers and Dungeon Masters. While taking traits and similarities from an already existing character can aid RP, please do not introduce any carbon copies of people from real life or fiction. This also goes for using their images and any iconic names (e.g. Voldemort, Darth Vader, Conan the Barbarian). Any characters that do not meet these requirements will not be approved. Step 7:
Once your character is filled out you just have to ping a Staff Member or Dungeon Master and they will review your character sheet and inform you of any missing information. Once your character is approved all you have to do is export it to your vault. To export your Character from the vault you want to start on Roll20's home page. Hover over "Tools" menu on the Homepage and select the "Character Vault" button underneath. Step 8:
From there you're gonna want to click "+ Import Existing Character" Step 9: Click on the drop down bar and select the game your character is in. In this case it would be "The Mad Lads" Step 10: Next select the character you're importing. Step 11: Click "Import Character" Step 12: Scroll down until you find your character. Once you do select the drop down bar on the left and select which game you want to import them into. Keep in mind you will have to join this game first before you are able to export them. Step 13: And you're done! Finish it off and "Export to Game" and you're ready to play.
