Dragons Species in Adventurers of Thira | World Anvil

Dragons

Dragons are commonly found in Eglana. Centuries ago, they fled countries like Thira when they were being hunted by Dreadful Sorcerers who used their blood and bones in their dark spell work. There are a wide variety of sizes, colors, and their abilities and are usually categorized by a specific element.

Because they are powerful and honored still, they are common images in family crests of nobility and the Eglana flag.

Types of Dragons:
Air: Air dragons live in the mountains. They commonly have scales in assorted shades of blue with feathers on the wings and tail. They create nests similar to birds high on the ledges of mountains.

Water: Water dragons are long and slender with slender legs and webbing between their toes. They travel in pod-like groups similar to whales and dolphins. They live in underwater caves and generally stay clear of humans. They are relatively neutral but will attack when they feel threatened and are very protective of their young.
They live in the oceans usually. Smaller varieties can be found in rivers and lakes.
Common colors- blue-greens, gray

Fire: These are the least common and are only found in the small chain of islands of Eglana as they live in active volcanoes. Frequent scale colors are red, gold, or black. Their scales are extremely thick to protect them from their harsh habitat.
These are the fire breathers. With very short tempers. Unless they are nesting, they are usually solitary.
They can fly but not long distances like air dragons. A few miles maximum.

Earth Dragons: While air dragons live high in the mountains, earth dragons are more ground level in caves. They are shades of brown or green. They have large back legs and shorter front "arms." They also can have spikes or horns on their bodies and heads.

Some categories not found in Eglana:
Ice: Residing in constantly cold climates, usually in or around glaciers. They breathe ice. Common colors- light blue, white, silver

Common Traits among all categories:
Hoarding- Dragons like things. And once they discover a favorite, they must have all of those things.
