Yelarvanislienthix (/jelävanislienθɪks/)

The Yelarvanislienthix is the tradition Raxarians use to name individuals. It is a ceremony to prove the strength of the Raxarian as they have been chosen to receive a name after their actions. The ceremony is highly respected and even criminals mostly abide by the tradition, even if they are being granted an honourless name.

History

The Raxarians initially do not have names. They are identified by the word: Kíliaotevarsin which literally means "one of the nameless". Raxarians must earn their name to be fully recognised among the brotherhood so extraneous circumstances or outstanding deeds that are recognised by a Dragon Lord or their Speaker can earn the Raxarian their name based on their actions. However, the actions do not have to be good ones; a nameless Raxarian could be given a name if they were to commit heresy or treachery among the brotherhood. In this example, if they are given a name for a bad deed, then their name has the suffix of -tivrona which is a shortened way of saying tivak vronazh meaning "no honour". Exiles would have the suffix of -zhiva instead, which is short for zhivanthax meaning "exile". Due to the relevance of suffixes in names, suffixes that would be applied to words for the meaning of a name are omitted.

When a Raxarian has been offered their name, they must perform a sacred ceremony to make it official, to allow them to be recognised fully as a true Raxarian. The ceremony is dubbed Yelarvislienthix which is greatly shortened collection of the words Yelarvan-ko eve Islientha lox Vyemthix which means "Devotion to Life and Death".

Execution

The ceremony lasts almost an entire day and is split into (Raxarian) hourly periods. During this time, the Raxarian performing the ceremony cannot eat, drink or sleep until the entire event is over.

• The first hour takes the Raxarian to recite a vows of devotion to their respective Dragon Lord, this is called the Arvien lia Yelarven-ko meaning "Hour of Devotion". After which, still during the hour, they must now remove the large scale on their chest. They can do this however they choose, but it must be done and the scale to be kept intact. If they choose to do it using a tool or weapon, then it must be using the Katanzhien. It does not matter how they choose to remove it, but a more painful method may show the Dragon Lord how strong they really are. Once the scale has been removed, it is destroyed by the Dragon Lord. How this is done depends on who it is for (Infermius will burn it, Zysargia will crush it, etc). This part of the hour is called the Itisliet Gitarzhi meaning "Infinite Sacrifice", referring to the fact that the scale regrows infinitely.
• The next two hours has them alone in a room. This room is called the Atenvix-ko Omarne which means "Silent Room". It is a completely empty room, with no light or views of outside. The point of this room is to test the resolution of the Raxarian when they are left alone with their own mental demons.
• The next hour takes them to fight a mirage of another Raxarian. Normally, Raxarians would not fight each other and doing so could be seen as treacherous, but this test is to see if the Raxarian can overcome the challenges of facing an equal in combat, and to also withstand and grit through pain to still come out victorious. The attacks from the mirage are not physical, but if the Raxarian is hit, they feel the pain as if it were a real weapon. The test will continue until the hour is complete or the real Raxarian forfeits. This fight is titled the Dorrath lia Mosovar meaning "Combat of Willpower".
• The next hour has them hallucinate, showing them fellow Raxarians fall in battle around them while they can only stand and watch. This test is to see if they can block out emotions of fear and anguish and maintain focus and determination. This hour is called the Manye lia Khivezhi-des meaning "Ocean of Horrors".
• The next two hours takes the Raxarian to a room full of tables of food and drink. By this time, the Raxarian will be heavily deprived of energy. The point is to see if they have the willpower and self-control to prevent themselves from giving in to their natural needs. This hour is called the Arvien-des lia Khivatim-ath, meaning "Hours of Suffering".
• The final hour has the Raxarian recite the vows again from the first hour. Upon finishing it, they have completed the ceremony and have been granted their name.

Components and tools

The Katanzhien is a hooked knife that is used to efficiently remove the scale on a Raxarians chest. The knife is in the possession of the Dragon Speaker, though it is not intended to be used offensively and so is often just kept at their home.

Participants

The Raxarian performing the ceremony does it in the presence of the Dragon Lord and Dragon Speaker, however, after the exodus to Nyet Yem, it was just to the Dragon Speaker.
