The Endless War

Written by Asa Jacobson

The Endless War is a constant state of military hostility between the Kingdom of Agranillis and the Nation of Denyth. There have only been three military engagements during the three hundred years struggle, one of which decimated all Denese warships. When the crew of the ships were drowning in the straight, the battalions aboard Agranillist warships rescued them with ropes and buoys, a sign of remaining honor between the two sides. The state of fluctuating power in Belreadeu has destabilized its economy and turned the once beautiful town into a warzone. There have been two major battles fought for the town, resulting in a majority of the casualties for the entire war thusfar. The King in Maplestall has reached out to the Protectionists in Denyth for a treaty, but they have refused to submit without gaining control of Belreadeu.

The Conflict

Deployment

Only three major deployments have been made as of 7024 Seventh Millennium, all made by Denyth against Agranillis. The First was the mobilization of six Denese Warships, which they used to create a trade blockade between the Abandoned Island and Agranillis, effectively nullifying the ability of the Holyfire Seven to aid their enemy. The Second deployment was Denyth's Imperial Army marching into Belreadeu, and taking over the town. The Final Deployment, made in just 7019 S.M., was the positioning of fourteen thousand mounted pikemen and a plethora of artillery in an old fortress in the open field on the border.

Battlefield

There has been only a few battles, resulting in minor casualties. Agranillis has lost a grand total of forty soldiers, while Denyth has lost half a thousand. This is a testimony to Agranillis deadly defense tactics.

Outcome

Towns on the border, including Belreadeu, have been wrecked and burned by both sides. The constant fear of invasion for both sides has taken a mental toll on the populous. Denyth has also been financially ruined by this conquest, exhausting half its revenue every year on feeding and supplying the idle soldiers.

Historical Significance

In Literature

Sister Syron Holyfire, the greatest of the Holyfire Seven (in 7024 S.M.), wrote a book in 6985 S.M. on the mysterious nature of the Endless War, finally making the conflict and its reason relatively widespread. Despite the neutrality of the book, the Holyfire Seven support Agranillis in the war.
HISTORY AND REASONING OF THE WAR   The War was a result of a misunderstanding, in which a Denese Protectionist believed the High Earl of the Belreadeu region admitted Agranillis did not have a rightful claim to the town and surrounding area. With this false imformation, the emperor of Denyth deployed ten thousand light cavalry to Belreadeu in a surprise invasion. Almost three hundred years of the town changing hands, bloodshed, and fear; and still very few know of the cause of the war.
