The Unfinished Blade
The Unfinished Blade is a legendary artifact of mythic potential, resting upon the Skyforge Anvil deep within a lost Lightning Forge high in the Thunder Peaks. Only partially forged, it is said to be awaiting the Perfect Storm—a cataclysmic convergence of elemental forces—to complete its creation. Until that moment, it remains dormant, humming softly with restrained power, a relic of ancient times and unfulfilled destiny.
The blade is a massive, sky-steel longsword, jagged at its tip where the forging ceased. Its surface shimmers with trapped lightning, arcs of static crackling faintly along its fuller.
- The hilt is wrapped in ancient stormhide leather, engraved with runes of wind-binding.
- Its pommel holds a core of stormglass, cloudy and pulsing faintly like a thunderhead.
- The unfinished edge looks as if frozen mid-crafting—unpolished, unsharpened, yet already capable of wounding the air around it.
The Unfinished Blade cannot be moved from its anvil, nor wielded. Any who attempt to lift it find their hands struck by bursts of repelling force. The forge surrounding it remains inert, its fire long cold, but storm-energy coils above it as if waiting—watching.
Significance
It is foretold that when the blade is completed during the Perfect Storm, it will:
- Channel the fury of the Everstorm, allowing its wielder to call down lightning, manipulate wind, and cleave storm itself.
- Become an intelligent weapon, whispering ancient knowledge and forgotten storm-lore to its bearer.
- Grant its wielder limited control over weather and air currents, particularly in battle.
Some myths claim the completed blade could split mountain peaks, banish storm-spirits, or even awaken slumbering sky gods.
Tales and Rumors:
- Skyborn Oracles speak of a destined Stormwright reborn who alone will finish the forging.
- Others claim the Unfinished Blade is a trap, and that completing it will awaken the Thunderbeast that once battled the first Stormwright.
- Some believe it is sentient, choosing who may one day complete it through dreams or visions during lightning storms.
Among the Stormbinders and the Windcloaks, the Unfinished Blade is a symbol of potential not yet fulfilled—a reminder that mastery over nature and self is a lifelong journey. Initiates often make a pilgrimage to the forge and leave offerings—storm-blood ink, feathers, sky-crystals—in hopes of being deemed worthy to witness its final forging.
