The Living Impaired

Branos is an open and tollerant society, but in Emeresia the undead still remain after the events of the undead scourge. Thanks to the Nexus the citizens of Emeresia do not see the undead, or as they are called in political correct terms, theliving impaired, as a threat. Instead they are seen as dimwitted and slow individuals.   It is immensly difficult for undead to take any significant part in society, and they tend to live at the edges of society, most often in slums. The only area were they seem to prosper is the guard, as the higher ups have long since learned that having a soldier who will face danger without fear and, more importantly, without the danger of a final death, are extremely effective and defending dangerous areas.

The undead Condition

The undead are Souls that cannot or have refused to continue on their journey after their death. Few are privy to the way the undead are bound to Emeresia, and no one has ever discerned what an undead truly is. It is important to note that the living impaired are not zombies. They are not bound by a necromancer to do their biddings, but may follow their own desires.   These living impaired citizens are extremly absent minded though and tend to be sluggish and clumsy, but they can be awakened

Some people have a certain, singular purpose. They can feel that they are on Adatia to do something, though they rarely can tell exactly what that purpose may be. More often than not they do not succeed though. Their opus is never written, their towns destroyed, or their painting never finished. These souls may be so disturbed by this that they cannot move on and, eventually, they come back. Stuck in Adatia they become sluggish and stupid, their fingers not able to move as they once had. Rarely the undead may find a shred of who he once was. Caught by this sliver of who they are they temporarily regain some of their vigor and skill.   This also means that a undead may be altruistic, egoistic, friendly or agressive depending on the soul of the individual.

Culture

Common Dress code

The living impaired tend to have extremly light, sometimes even slightly translucent, skin. For this reason they tend to wear long clothes that cover most, if not all, of their skin. Those in not felsh host attempt to hide their nature as best they can.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

When a soul returns to Adatia they are pulled into the undead asylum. There a dedicated group of attendees accepts the soul, taking care of it. They first comfort the soul, doing there best to orientate it. They then, in the name of Sylvana, try to convince the soul to move on, as they had already lived their life and each person was to have only one life. Most of the souls spend some time telling their stories to the attendees. They meticulously write down the story of the deceased, as this seems to help them move on and, in some cases, these stories can even lead to court cases where crimes have been committed.   In the end most souls accept the comfort of the attendees and continue on their journey. A handful cannot seem to let go though. These souls are taken and slowly introduce to new bodies. These bodies range from old pieces of armor and artificial constructs, to preserved bodies that individuals had donated for the undead.   After the soul selects a host it loses most of its memories. The attendees then must spend time slowly rebuilding the individual until he can function as an independent part of society.
