Massacre at Telo Trada

Disaster / Destruction

619BA

The Nasir Dominion attempts to invade Arcanaan with a large force of 15,000. Though their goal was to seize the Tavarin provincial seat of government, Telo Trada, they are ultimately decimated by an unexpected ally of the empire: the nephilim from Sage.

The Dominion's strategy was to march below the South Numir Mountains and then north along the east coast of the South Abian Sea, bypassing Callon entirely to prevent any early warning to the Empire.   Arcanaan's forces were weakened from recent political disarray after the Heaven's Fall meteorite impact that darkened the skies over the northern hemisphere for months, and forced the relocation of the nephilim that previously inhabited Sage. Most in the Empire saw the devistation as a bad omen and believed the hybrids to be cursed.   Made aware of the encroaching Dominion forces, however, and desperate for assistance, Duke Azuric Tarlin (Azuric the Allegiant) sent a messenger to the Sagen Council of Elders to request their aid. The Sagens responded with a small fighting force of only ten men. The messenger was grieved to travel back to Azuric with such a seemingly pathetic number, but when they arrived, the handful of Sagens performed the impossible…   With a single snap of their fingers, the ten progeny of astral-human blood annihilated the Zoroastrian vanguard with an inferno so hot, the flames were white and the ground beneath turned to glass. Ten defeated 15,000 in merely an hour by forcing the remainder of the Zoroastrian legions to retreat across the border. Since that day, the nephilim have been the most feared people in Abia and, because of that fear, the most enigmatic.   After the surprising victory, the ten nephilim defenders of Tavarin were invited to Arcana to present themselves to the imperator and be formally styled "Knight Protectors". They were allowed to organize a military order of their own that was charged with defending the Arcanaan Empire from all foreign threats. Furthermore, Duke Tarlin agreed to relinquish a third of his lands to provide the nephilim a new home. Ironically, however, they were not granted full citizenship and their territory was considered an "unprotected interest" of the Empire.
