Common Languages
Kaishic - Considered the first mortal language, spoken by the chimeras during the Era of Dreams. After the Fall, when humans devised their own language systems, Kaishic became a "dead" language in the western hemisphere, but all Adaran languages can trace their roots to Kaishic structure.
While it has largely disappeared in the west, the Isepox of the Ecios Mountains still speak the most archaic known form of Kaishic. It also remains the dominant language today of many Nawonese nations (in the eastern hemisphere). There are noticeable differences between modern written Kaishic and its predecessor form found in recovered pre-Fall texts.
Anic - A pre-imperial language spoken in southwest Abia, primarily in Crestocia and along the lower half of the Western Plate. Today, it is rarely spoken outside modern Crestos.
Oskuri - The primary language of Aurean city-states, with the exception of Shankara.
Astarhi - The language of the nephilim, who claim to have learned it from their astral parents. It is only ever heard in Sagus and non-nephilim speakers are rare, mainly scholars of the Library of Sena or Violet College.
Melísian - Originating in Meloir before the region was unified under the Melísian kings of House Deschaies, it was known as Morien. The language has since spread south into the Lowlands and east into the Nexan Plains.
High Abian - Known for its parentage to modern Abian variants rather than coincidental geographic spread, High Abian is spoken across the Western and Eastern Highlands, Castere's Bounty, and Practan Hills regions of Abia. It eventually evolved into modern Common Abian, which is the prefered national language of the Arcanaan Empire. It was easy for Arcana to adopt it early because the city borders Ascor (a present-day dukedom of the Western Highlands).
High Imperial - Claimed to be a "refined" form of High Abian that makes heavy use of borrowed Melísian words. It is spoken at court among the Arcanaanite Aristocracy and is heard all throughout the capital city of Arcana.
Nasirian - Both the demonym and name of the language spoken by the people of Nasir. Since the early days of the Red-Violet War, it has spread to Numir's Arm, where the occupied regions have since adopted the Numir-Nasirian variant.
Achonian - Spoken in Tavarin and across the Numir's Arm pinensula, it is a post-Fall language that supposedly originated from the now-destroyed city-state of Achonia.
Angean - A relatively new language that uses simplistic forms of speech, borrowed words from dominant continental languages, and expressive vocal tonation for purposes of international communication--mainly diplomacy and trade. It is a product of Shankara, a city-state on the south coast of the Aurean Stretch that seeks to trade with all nations of Adarus. Angean is the official language of Shankara, but many of its residents will speak Oskuri in private settings as a majority of the city's people are from bordering Aurean nation-states.
English - Spoken among and by the members of the Iliad Program from Tellus. Tellan explorers will use AI-supported intepretation devices called RLAs, or Retro-Linguistic Analyzers. Odysseus personnel travelling beyond Argos Base will carry a small black Pelican case that contains multiple RLA ear pieces. These are lent as necessary to native Adarans for communication. The RLAs will function so long as they have a direct link to the aerial drone network. This technology allows both interlocuters to carry on a conversation, each speaking their own language comfortably while receiving real-time interpretation.
