My Blooming Rose

"My blooming rose" is a famous love letter which caused a major scandal in the Free Cities. In 933 IC it was intended that the Grand Viscount of Suza to marry the túrannos of Nyreen. A child of such a union would have united those two realms. The Grand Viscount was in Nyreen to prepare for the ceremony when the aforementioned letter was stolen. The letter was for the túrannos' sister, whom the Gand Viscount had carried on an affair with for some years. Copies were sent to broadsheets and political rivals across the free cities. The Grand Viscount could not deny that the letter was false when questioned by paladins. As such the engagement was ended and the potential alliance never came to be.

Historical Details

Background

Grand Viscount Gabriel had been fostered in his youth at the court of the túrannos of Nyreen. Here he had come to know the children of the house quite well. It was agreed that Gabriel would marry the second child of the house, Minerva. Some years later the túrannos died and his son Justinian became the new ruler. However, he took ill and soon died, leaving Minerva in charge. She elected to maintain the engagement. Gabriel himself also ascended to ruler-ship in his own city. After only a short time to settle matters in Suza he returned to Nyreen for the marriage. As it turns out Gabriel had another motive for returning. From their teens he had carried on an affair with Rosana, the sister of Minerva.

Public Reaction

The scandal shocked and delighted the people of the Free Cities. The Grand Viscounts of Suza had long cultivated a reputation of fidelity to Sol and to family. To have a noble of such prestige publicly planning infidelity with his intended's sister caused outrage.
