Tales of Night
Do you feel those eyes in the shadow watching as you convince yourself its all in your head? Just maybe, it is not. As more and more stories are told around campfire flames of the women of the night striking out at unsuspecting victims circulate, these Assassins appear to be as real as the darkness they hide in. The Lightless Moon and Daughters of the Night are more comforting if thought as a children's folk lore tale.
As we hear these stories, a remarkable amount of similarities seem to strike. Looking at these last five victim's, they seem to have nothing in common, but a common enemy. It may be true for them as a person, but the manner of their death seem to follow a pattern. They received many wounds along their abdomens and appendages. These seems strange for the level of skill these assassins appear to possess, but a closer examination reveals the weapons also cauterized the wounds. Were these strikes just a form of torture? Each victim received a final blow to their heart, this wound would not cauterize.
Why do these skillful assassin's strike? One would assume wealth, but that is not the case. When their services are requested, it is a much darker and costlier ceremony than a monetary transaction. A ritual must be performed with a sacrifice to a Goddess, Vudea. Vudea and her daughters always return the bargain.
Who is Vudea? She does not seem to be recognized in the traditional pantheon. Some rumors are that she was born of the blood of Mystra when killed by Cyric. The evil actions of Cyric corrupted the blood causing it to seep into the Shadowfell where it would manifest into what is now a Goddess of nightmares.
