Return to the Depths Report
General Summary
From the journal of Shachar Eliashi [Elias] to his guide from the celestial realms:
Myllandra,
I know this will not fall upon you, but it comforts me to write this as if you're listening to my words. We have delved into the fortress in the middle of the city, braving storm and numerous other "delays" in regards to finding items that we can use to either enter the lower realms in search of the pustule from beneath the rat king or that blasted white dragon that plagues and evades us. In the depths of the building we fought numerous vampires and other undead spawn. I hate the undead. I'm unaware if it's because of the unnatural mockery of life in which they represent or if they are just a reminder of the deal that I made with the Raven Queen and reneged on for a chance to have light in my life again. The more we deal with such denizens the more I can feel her hold of icy apathy upon my being attempting to snuff out the flame within me. When we were leaving the fortress a dwarf (of the stonebrakers) was caged up and offered up information upon his release. I faltered and in honoring my word to release him from his captivity I was indifferent to whether or not my compatriots would have slain him in cold blood. This isn't who you brought back into the light and I don't know if I'm backsliding. We made proper usage of his information which is taking us to a forge below the city that requires one of dwarven blood (or in possession of an item that makes one appear as a dwarf) to activate in order to attain some item of power that we have yet to be revealed. While journeying in the undercity again we encountered a small ratling child that was in the midst of drowning and being swept down the fetid current. I, again, was apathetic to the plight of this child. All I could see was the adults that had entombed me and tormented us throughout our time under the city. This child was not one of the ones wielding the globes of darkness or any of the weapons that had assailed us, and was not only innocent but in need of assistance. If not for Stodgy's quick thinking it would have been lost to the torrent. His mercy revealed itself to be a greater boon to us than just the protection of life in that an older ratling came forward to us to offer assistance considering that we were not seen as complete adversaries. I would have lost us this opportunity in my misstep. Further down we were embroiled in a crossfire between a party of Steelbreakers and Drow. We came close to meeting our end again and yet all of us remain.
I apologize for taking so long to put this forth in written word for you. I have struggled with finding words appropriate to convey what is going between my head and my heart. That's no excuse for my delay but it's the only response that I have. I will do what I can to atone for my weakness of character that I've been showing. I'll earn the right to bear this gift of inner flame that you've bestowed upon me.
Regards, Shachar Eliashib "Twice fallen, once risen and bearer of the flames of celestia"
